I’m always looking for a bargain on Craigslist, but usually find overpriced rust. Here’s a reasonably priced 1966 Beetle from a desirable year, the last year of the “good” Bugs. It’s all original, unmolested, numbers matching and even runs and drives. The rust is said to be confined to the heater channels. If it’s been an El Paso car for awhile, it should be pretty well rust free. There is the incomplete 12 volt conversion to be finished (revolting?). It has damage to the front right that will need attention. And, of course, it’s going to need new tires. What do you think is a reasonable price for this Bug if it’s as represented? Would you drive it as it is or is it worth restoring? Perhaps one could replace the hood and valance and repaint the odd bits? Have a look at it here on craigslist!

1966 Volkswagen Beetle: Reasonably Priced

A very good deal I’d say. I bit too far for me but someone is going to get a nice car for the money on this one.
That would be a bargin in NH , nothing but total rust buckets up here.
i too think it looks like a lot of car for the money. needs a PI on the rust plus a test drive. make it safe and daily drive it even with the right front damage/paint mismatch. back in the day a lot of beetles had paint mismatchs. great find.
At least he got it off the trailer before taking pictures! I think that’s a really good price for the scrubbing bubble. How long will it take before these start to follow the Porsche bubble in their own modest way? In a couple years, all of the BF friends will be wishing they had grabbed this when it was so cheap!
Decent price for an easy fix if no surprises….not my kinda deal.
What makes this a ‘good’ year for Bugs?
I love the car but I’d be concerned about the title that has “Salvaged” stamped on it (per the ad).
Nice little bug but just one year off for me, the ’67 with first year 12v and other upgrades 1300cc engine. This ’66 will make someone a nice little ride. I had my fun with these years ago.
