American Motors introduced two new cars in 1968, the Javelin and AMX. The former was a “pony car” designed in the hot market space the Ford Mustang is credited with creating. The latter was a GT-style 2-seat muscle car based on a shortened pony platform. This 1969 AMX is past its prime and the seller is letting it go as a parts car without a title. Located outdoors in Nanjemoy, Maryland, the starting bid is $900 here on eBay, and there have been no takers thus far.
AMC didn’t have much luck finding a market for the AMX. The closest other car available was the Chevy Corvette, which was more of a sports car while the AMX was all about being badass. From 1968 to 1970, AMC only peddled 19,134 AMXs with 8,293 in 1969 when the seller’s donor rolled out of AMC in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This shell of its former self is one of 3,620 produced with the bruiser 390 cubic inch V8 with a 4-speed manual transmission.
The seller confirms that this ’69 AMX has been living (or dying) out in the woods for many years. We’re told it’s mostly all there, though the interior is sparse and the back window is gone. It still has its 390 V8, though it’s stuck and may be beyond help. If you were the only potential buyer to place a bid, $900 might net you a donor for $900 (plus transportation) to help a more deserving project come back to life.
For a Barn Find, this one doesn’t even have a barn.
It certainly could have used one. In my opinion, I think it may be too late now. Looks like recycling “junk” yard material.
Frank TA, I agree. Looking at the photos on eBay I don’t see many usable parts. This is just junk. Why do people let a vehicle rot like this and then ask money for it.
I have an uncle who literally still has every vehicle he’s ever owned all the way back to the 1963 Chevy II station wagon he drove to college. The only new car he ever bought was in 1969 after graduating college he bought my aunt a 1969 Dodge Charger w/383 automatic. They drove it until there was something wrong with the drivetrain and parked it behind the house. He could have, over the last 20 years, sold a hundred of them but he won’t let anyone have it and all four of my cousins tried. He used to say he was going to “fix it up” someday but no more. It’s a shame but the AMX either went with the land it was on, or someone was going to fix it up as well.
Rust in peace.

It has a bid now, but you can always retract your bid. How sad!!
Negative 900 dollars. Like other comments its sad to see this!
Best thing about this AMX is the 390 in it. $900 for a stuck 390 may be a gamble but may work out, or not. Any vehicle can be restored but at what cost.
Interesting hole in the roof, aftermarket sun roof?
People that have every thing they owned since college are called hoarders. It is a real disease. There are treatment programs.
The treatment center is located in my front yard. Bring all of those nasty old cars that are controlling you over here and I will free you from their grip- there is hope.
(Note: side effects may include a happier spouse, a higher bank balance, fewer visits from Code Enforcement and death. Check with your local wrecking yard if symptoms persist.)
Sold $1,285, 5 bidders.
Well bought.

Perhaps, as long as $?,???.00 in shipping (this is beyond a “non- runner”) isn’t required. Don’t ask me how I know…
