1975 BMW 2002: Cheap Tii?

1975 BMW 2002

If the ’02 race car was too pricy for you, then here is a cheaper option! As we get closer to summer, I’m anxiously awaiting the return of my brother’s 2002 to the back roads of Maryland. He’s had the engine apart since winter and is rebuilding it in his limited spare time, so it’s somewhat tempting to look for a cheap 2002 to add to my collection so I can attempt to understand why he’s on his third one! This 1975 2002 found here on craigslist for $4,500 is said to be rot-free and only on the market because the seller is thinning his own herd. The seller captures vital pictures of the rust-free rear shock towers, but a few shots of the interior would help validate whether this is as good of a deal as it seems. I would also want to make sure it is a tii before getting too excited. With 130 b.h.p. on tap, these are extremely fun drivers – I’d install a firmer suspension, some Borrani steel wheels, and call it a day!

Thought the last year for a Tii was 1994? These are not good pictures to evaluate anything. All have deep shadows. I am leery of this car. I had a 76 and the front fenders will rot around the turn signals if you just look at them.

    The upside:
    – a decent looking 2002 without the typical Northeast rustout
    – said to be a tii
    – good price for an unrusty tii that runs, which the car does

    The downside:
    – only a few small pics, not enough to go on
    – for more pics we are referred to “see my instagram pics at beyond automotive” but there are no other useful photos there
    – What we do find there is: “Picked up another 2002, specs 1975 bmw 2002, manual, runs, needs clutch cylinder, clean nj title, no major rust, rare for the east coast.its for sale bought it for the cache of parts it came with call me its for sale 732 254 3040”

    Bottom line:
    – the tii claim is bogus
    – I’m out of here

Looks like a decent price if it truly is rust free.

VIN# and engine shot will put any lingering doubts to rest, however it specifically says “not a Tii” in the headline.
USA Tii 7,447 made from 1971-1975

    Mine is VIN#2763019, a 1973 year model

Looks like they edited the ad after the burst of interested Tii buyers we sent them. Oh well, I guess they won’t keyword stuff anymore…

Listing of CL ad says “not a tii” and bottom of text says “this is not a tii”!

So either the poster changed it (unlikely since ad is two months old) or Jeff is blind.

You can edit cl ads after posting. I edited Jeff’s post and it most definitely said it was a tii. I’m guessing the seller threw that in there in hopes of getting more attention. Well, it worked. That’s not going to help them find a buyer though.
