Trans Am Alternative? 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Pat L. shared this ad for a 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 that is listed for sale here on craigslist for an asking price of $9,900. The engine, interior, and suspension have been restored and all the car needs are new paint and a new owner. The Camaro Z28 is located in Livermore, California just southeast of San Francisco.

The seller says the car needs to be cleaned up but the interior of the car looks spectacular. The dash, seats, and door panels look very nice. The car has an aftermarket radio, tilt column, power windows, power locks and an automatic transmission. The car was originally silver with a black interior.

The 350 cubic inch V8 engine is a remanufactured motor that was professionally installed and has about 10,000 miles on it. The transmission and brakes have also been rebuilt. The car was equipped with air conditioning from the factory but that has been removed and the parts are included with the car.

The ad states that rear window louvers and a car cover come with the car. I wish the prior owners had used a car cover to protect the paint on this Z28 from the sun. The seller states that the 1978 Camaro Z28 “is an equal vehicle to the bandit Trans Am.” I know I am biased but why do cloned Bandit Trans Ams sell for $40,000 and he is asking $9,900?

It looks like a 1979 to me.

Yup, ’79 not ’78. Square dash, front spoiler, Camaro badge on fuel filler door (not Z28) – are all 1979 indicators.

And red interior Z28 emblems too. On the ’78 they’re charcoal.

People not involved in the old car hobby do not realize how much money a first class paint job and new decals are going to almost double the price of this car.

I believe you can get an enamel non clearcoat old factory type paint job from Maaco for less than a grand & it probably won’t look much worse than some new car factory paint jobs i remember seeing on the lots back in the ’70s. lol.
& if you don’t get it wet & keep it out of the sun, & cover the car, the paint may not look bad for many years to come.

Yeah, I was sad to see the Pont’s go. I had an ‘80 Z-28 in the charcoal/black scheme.

It was squirrly as hell on wet pavement.

That’s a 79. Square instrument panel and front spoiler. How can you post your own car and not know what year it is??? Could be a typo, not ragging on you
