1993 Lincoln Mark VIII in ’51 Mercury Clothing

Transformations that swap out body panels on vehicles are usually hit-or-miss, and it’s especially risky when the cars are from completely different eras.  However, the blend of a ’51 Mercury front onto a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII actually works pretty well here, with this unusual creation also said to score high marks in the mechanical department.  If you’ve been in the market for a guaranteed attention-getting luxurious coupe from another century, this one is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and can be seen here on Facebook Marketplace.  It’s priced at $7,000, and we’d like to thank readers Rocco B. and Mitchell G. for both finding this oddity and sending in the tips here!

The seller is upfront that the exterior isn’t perfect, noting that there are some small areas where body filler is cracking, with the paint also fading near those sections.  Fortunately, the build itself appears to be decent, so if you’ve got the skills to make the needed outside repairs and apply a fresh coat of paint, this one would probably present beautifully.  It’s also wearing a set of aftermarket Lexani wheels that complement the other exterior mods nicely, plus the suspension is said to have been redone recently.

Just as attention-getting as the other mods is what’s been done inside, as the once-luxurious, comfortable driver’s bucket has been swapped for a black vinyl seat that looks like it would be right at home in a delivery truck.  There’s no mention of why this was changed, but the seat appears to be in nice shape, and hopefully, it’s power-assisted.  We don’t get to see a photo of the entire dashboard and instrument panel, but the combination of other pictures suggests that most of the other interior areas remain in good shape.

It’s reported that the owner’s roommate is an ASE-certified mechanic and that the Lincoln runs amazingly.  The car itself is stated to have been driven 94,000 miles, with the engine replaced at around 60k and an OEM Ford automatic transmission installed at about 75k.  Not needing any mechanical work at the moment is certainly a plus, and while I can appreciate the creativity and all the work that’s gone into this one, there’s a chance this 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII may have a limited audience for enthusiasts who will want to actually own it.  What are your thoughts here?

Interrrresting…all it needs (besides a drivers seat) is a conti trunk like a Mk VII. And some under-hood detailing would help. But it’s not an insulting price.

Was the Mercury custom grille not from a De Soto (or something like that)?
