19K-Mile Movie Car? 1976 Chrysler Newport

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The seller lists the mileage of this beautiful 1976 Chrysler Newport as being 19,000 miles, but there are really only five photos to try to figure out if that’s 19,000 or 119,000. From the one interior photo (not bitter), it sure looks like it could be the real deal. They also show a pic of it being filmed for a movie, and it’s posted here on craigslist in Youngstown, Ohio, where “Brier Hill” is being filmed. Here is the original listing, they’re asking $12,000, and thanks to Rocco B. for the tip!

I’m not sure if a movie car is worth more than a regular, nice, 1976 Chrysler Newport would be, unless Brier Hill becomes the next Star Wars-like mega trilogy. The photos are a little deceiving, color-wise. That isn’t a black vinyl top, it’s green! I know, the magical mystery 1970s, where a gold and green color palette would be mashed together in one 19-foot-long Chrysler.

According to the included documentation, this car was sold to Pietro DiNovo and Son in Steubenville, Ohio, which was a Chrysler Dealership, or maybe still is? The colors are unusual, to say the least, but what a grand car for a mid-trim-level Chrysler. The sixth-generation Newport was made from 1973 for the 1974 model year until the end of 1978. 1970 was the last year a Newport convertible was offered, and I was wondering what a 1976 Newport convertible might look like.

Here’s a shocker: that color code KY4 “Golden Fawn” exterior color combined with what Chrysler referred to as E3F6 “green” cloth and vinyl split-back bench seat with folding center armrest! I absolutely love both colors, but maybe not when they’re combined on the same car. Someone had an idea of what they wanted, and the front interior sure looks nice in this one, single, lone, sad, lonely interior photo. This is it, folks, one interior photo.

Even sadder, there is no engine photo. A 19,000-mile car where everything else looks like new, it sure would have been nice if they had taken 4 seconds to pop the hood and snap one photo of the engine compartment. At least they list what it is, and that’s a Chrysler 400-cu.in. OHV V8, which with the two-barrel carb had 175 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. Backed by, of course, a three-speed TorqueFlite, they don’t actually say how it runs, only that they’ve had it for seven years and they don’t drive it. This whole listing is a head-scratcher, but man, what a nice-looking Newport.

Scotty, Not sure which to call it gift skill or talent or both. I once saw a guy who would do sketches using a piece of charcoal and draw portraits of people with uncanny accuracy.

Another one of those big 70’s sedans which I pretty much ignored, now I find them interesting from the “they did what they were designed to do very well” perspective.

I’m fine with the paint and interior colors.

    Thanks Scotty.

Well, let’s take a look see,,,I’d have to say, just by the interior, it’s not 119K. I still see cars like this here, but the sightings are getting a lot fewer, meaning,,,mmm hmm, you know, and these cars are coming out of garages at a horrific rate. Now, is there a call in 2025 and beyond for a car like this? Time will tell, my friends, time will tell.

Oh, BTW, I wanted to say, I had a dear friend in N.Wis., had is the key word there, and lived in a very small town, full of eclectic characters. Across the street, lived a single woman, many called a witch, typical overgrown, and had several cars on her property, one was a blue Newport just like this. It was sunk in the dirt up to the wheel covers, but in perfect shape. I didn’t dare inquire. My friend said it was rumored, men went in and never came back out,,,,

Hey Rick, did you hear that song when you drove “The Streets of Baltimore?” Good to see you back on.

To Jon R! You’ve got me confused with Angel! I’ve never been to Baltimore, but have been in DC back before….I loved driving the Castro Streets of San Francisco. I’m still rolling down hill in shock over the Cancelation of a certain Late Night show! Guess I’ll have to find a New Port for entertainment ๐Ÿ™„

Brings back great memories of my grandmother. Her second to last new car was a 1977 Newport pillar 4 Dr…more chrome around the grill, hood ornament, repeaters, long fill width taillights. Triple dark green, green vinyl top, green paisley fabric. Our family had a new 1977 Delta 88 4dr ..navy blue. It was a big thrill for me when grandma would let me drive her car.

Wow Youngstown. I could stroll right over and check this one out if I was really interested, which I’m not. Intrigued yes. In Youngstown they needed all that trunk space to put the bodies in. Just sayin’.

I bought a 19k (verified) ’75 Newport Custom earlier this year for just slightly more money. Price is about right IMHO, but its a CL car that, by ’76, should at least have included an FM radio! Have to admit, I’d like this one a lot better in Deep Sherwood green with that interior. Naturally, my CM model was optioned more fully, but this one is still pretty nice for an entry-level car in the first year without an Imperial in the showrooms. Never ceases to amaze me how many of these barges have survived with such low miles (if its verified). For an Ohio car not to be eaten up by rust, that’s a clue that it might be true.

It does have an AM-FM radio. At the bottom of the window sticker.

Oh, yes… Sorry, I thought it said just AM. Thanks for catching my error. Truth be told, I rarely listen to radio at all, but when I do, its usually AM! The radio in my ’75 is amazingly crisp and clear, even for a factory stereo of that era.

A 1976 model with the 400 means it has Lean Burn. That may or may not be a good thing. These cars ride VERY well and handle well. Not sure I would have chosen that color combination but the condition is incredible.

Growing up, my parents had a neighbor with the 2-door version of this vehicle & it has the same color combination. Sounds goofy, but it works in a whacky 70’s vibe.

Something is off here. The Photos show either a 1974 or 1975 model. In 1976 the Newport had the front & back of the prior year New Yorker, while the New Yorker took on the exterior styling of the discontinued Imperial.

You’re absolutely right! I should have caught it. After Imperials unfortunate demise in 75, New Yorker inherited everything from Imperial, except the name.

I thought the same thing at first… “No, that’s a ’75!” But the serial number clearly shows that it was built as a ’76. I’d be curious to see the fender tag so we could know the build date. It may have been in that no man’s land in August or early September! Would not be the first time I’ve seen that happen.

This is a 76, buli 4/30/76, per the SO # barely legible at the top right of the window sticker. If it had the lean burn, it would be noted on the sticker. I sold these in 76.

Relatively the same paint and interior as our ’69 Galaxie. Yellowish paint with dk green or red was quite common then. I’d love to have something like this.

I have leased a few vehicles to the studios.

I will not do that again.

They did not beat what you can see.

They burned out the drive train: engine, cooling, exhaust, brakes.

    Never again.

When they return your vehicle and it smells like burnt everything! No!

I hope someone has the pockets to rescue this thing.

It needs a complete rebuild; my opinion.
