Another in the last category you ever thought would be on Barn Finds: a sports turf and infield groomer, this unusual and very cool 19XX Broyhill M-4100 3×3 (!) can be found listed here on Facebook Marketplace in Abbeville, Georgia. If it were closer, it would be part of the “Scotty G’s Garage” series. The seller is asking $975. Here is the original listing, and thanks to PRA4SNW for the tip!
I don’t know in what world I would ever need a three-wheel-drive sports turf grooming vehicle, but I think I could justify this one with the amount of yard work my wife (a master gardener) does. Or that would be my argument anyway. Hauling mulch and dirt/soil alone would be a no-brainer with this 3×3. Plus, then I would have a 2×2 Rokon and a 3×3 Broyhill M-4100. From what I can find, the company made this model from the 1990s to the 2000s, and they still make a similar but much nicer model. Here’s a brochure showing the new one. I could spend all day looking at that brochure for some odd reason.
When I think of Broyhill, I think of furniture, not that I have owned any Broyhill furniture either, but I’ve never even heard of this Dakota City, Nebraska company when it comes to heavy-duty maintenance vehicles and equipment. Broyhill still makes a vehicle like this unusual 3×3, but they also make baseball infield grooming equipment, such as the Ball Field Finisher equipment. Here’s another brochure showing their equipment line. This one is a Highlander Sport, and I can’t find much info on this exact model beyond a couple of old auction listings. I wish the seller had included a photo of a data plate.
We just saw the almost as unusual two-wheel drive Toro Sand Pro three-wheeler the other day, and this 780-pound Broyhill groomer is so much cooler, in my opinion. The Toro would have used an implement on the rear, as the current Broyhill company makes for grooming sports infields and other sporting uses. But this Broyhill has that fiberglass dump bed on the back, making it a great gardening machine, not to mention the single front wheel is also powered. That would be my argument for our hilly yard with all kinds of rain gardens and other things going on, if it weren’t a $1,000 shipping ride away from home.
This example has a 479-cc, 16-horsepower OHV four-stroke Vanguard (Briggs & Stratton) V-twin engine and hydostatic drive. It’s good for between 10 and 12 mph, fast enough for grooming and yard work. The seller posted a video of it in action. They also say they had it running and driving, but it needs a new carb, so I don’t know if that’s an old video or what the story is. I’m guessing it wouldn’t be hard to get it running like new, and I’d love to have this one. Have any of you heard of Broyhill turf equipment?
Another unique find by Scotty G! When I read the heading, Bob Barker immediately came to mind. He gave away a bunch of Broyhill items during his time, but I don’t recall any resembling this! If you could integrate a beautiful model into these pics, it may sell quicker??

That’s exactly what I thought when i saw this listing. I didn’t know that Broyhill made furniture AND equipment like this. LOL! Of course, they are 2 different companies, but any fan of The Price Is Right will recognize that brand name.

This really looks like fun. I’m with all the above, when did they switch from recliners to these? This is another great find, thanks to PRA4SNW for finding it, and Scotty for writing it up. ( What???? No Crew cab version Scotty???) This would be great for puttering around the yard and what not. Power going to the front wheel is an interesting concept too.

WHEEE,, can you just imagine if the author had unlimited funds, what his garage would include. Be tour worthy, it would. Seems to have a hankerin’ for turf and lawn equipment. I can understand that, as cutting grass is/was my favorite thing. Something about chlorophyll mixing with engine exhaust.They are the unsung heroes of the country club set. Never had a Vtwin Briggs, I heard they were troublesome, but had a lot of power. For a while, they were the engine of choice for lawn mower races, until Honda motors became the norm. Never been? They are a hoot. Again, great for wheelies ( with Big Mama on the back, front tire spinning, most impressive) but for the most part, just another busy day for the maintenance crew.

I used to be married to a master gardener and I have alot more time in the garage now! ( no more having to help with fertilizer bags, having to prune this, that couldn’t be reached and digging holes for new trees). “That tree costs how much?” Although it came in handy when at Hearst Castle. The “tour guide” was consistently wrong on the plant name/genesis and the wife kept correcting her. So the “guide’s” boss who was tagging along at the rear of the group pulled us aside and apologized by giving us a personal “full tour” and the IMax movie.
Sounds like a four-stroke, three wheel drive, bedroom set. When things get sporty, you never know what side is going to tip over. Better to go with a 4×6 Gator variant. At least you have the capability of a SxS and you can ride them in as many places. In the Southeast, they’re all over the PublicSurplus website from July to September 30, every year for about the same money and in the same condition.

I bet it’s fun as heck to ride this thing around the yard. And w/ 3WD and 16 horsepower on tap, I think you could take it up some interesting slopes.
