If you’re the type of enthusiast who doesn’t mind the idea of getting their hands dirty performing some TLC on the classic of their dreams, this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible deserves a close look. It isn’t perfect, but it is a tidy driver that could be elevated to a higher level relatively easily. Its 350/4-speed drivetrain promises excellent performance that guarantees satisfaction whenever the driver hits the “loud” pedal. The seller has listed the Corvette here on eBay in Chesapeake, Virginia. Bidding sits below the reserve at $11,200, with the listing statistics suggesting that the action could intensify as the auction heads to its conclusion.

The 1970 model year brought the first significant cosmetic upgrade to the C3 Corvette. Chevrolet had listened to customer feedback, incorporating fender flares to protect the lower body extremities from chips inflicted by errant stones and gravel. It also added a new grille and revised fender vents to help differentiate its latest model from its predecessor. The first owner ordered this ‘Vette in Marlboro Maroon with a color-matched factory hardtop and a Black soft-top. The seller states that the paint was once very nice, but there are now a few minor imperfections in the paint and fiberglass. Some of these are visible in the supplied images, although none are severe enough to warrant immediate attention. The car remains presentable and could offer a relaxed ownership experience, as any further chips won’t mar perfection. The recently renewed soft-top is in good condition, fitting tightly. The seller states that the vacuum system requires attention, which isn’t unusual in Corvettes of this vintage. The trim is in good order, and the glass appears clear.

This Corvette’s interior, trimmed in Black vinyl, is serviceable in its current form. There is no severe wear, and I can’t spot any of the typical carpet fading. The seller admits that the radio and shifter bezel mounts require repairs, but only an in-person inspection will confirm whether replacement would be a more effective solution. The air conditioning doesn’t blow cold, requiring conversion to R134a refrigerant. The only other visible factory option is an AM/FM radio, which was a highly popular choice among Corvette buyers in 1970.

Corvette buyers in 1970 could choose from three optional motors to power their new toy. However, this car’s first owner selected the entry-level ZQ3 version of the 350ci V8. It delivers a healthy 300hp and 380 ft/lbs of torque to a Posi rear end via a four-speed manual transmission. Almost 69% of buyers ticked the box beside power steering on their Order Form, and this is one of those cars. The seller installed a larger exhaust that bolts to the original manifolds, which appears to be the only mechanical modification. They indicate that this Convertible is a strong runner with no fluid leaks. It seems that immediate motoring enjoyment is only days away for the winning bidder.

Evaluating the relative desirability of some classics can be challenging. However, the fact that this 1970 Corvette Convertible has garnered over 300 views in the past day suggests that people appreciate what they see.     If it were a 1969 (the year I got my driver’s license) right next door in Chesapeake! I would be in trouble. I really wanted one of these and my Dad cried because we couldn’t afford it. Of course, that may be why I’m alive to post this!

    I have restored two C3s. When an ad reads needs TLC it means all suspension is shot, power steering control valve leaks, radio broken, ac inoperative, tach likely broken, etc. A big plus here is the trailing arms have been replaced. That means rhe wheel bearings are new, a major PITA jkb if not done. These are great dtivimg cars when mechanicslly sound. Ph. He also put in an aluminum radaitor. I kept my heavy copper brasd one from my 73 Corvette. Put in a costly, but excellent DeWitts. Done with it.

    Vacuum system in these have a lot of stuff to go through to ensure it is functional. Lots of lines and vacuum motors and a tank to contend with. The headlights and wiper door are dependent on the vacuum system. No problem if you only drive in the dry daylight. Somewhat fiddly to diagnose issues and make repairs. Not especially cheap either depending on what needs to be replaced. Add this to the non working A/C problem and possibly rust and you’ll be investing more time and money than you think even without delving into paint and fiberglass. If you can factor all of this into the purchase price and have the skills to DYI; you could end up with a nice Corvette. GLWTS.

    Hi, people need to realize these cars have been here for 50 yrs or so! So, there’s always something to do. If it has a v.good drivetrain etc. other stuff is inconsequential.

    In ’70 I believe there were FOUR available engines: base ZQ3, 350/350/LT1/LS5 454.

    Very similar to the one I used to own. Mine had the luggage rack.
    In this condition, if the frame / birdcage are decent, should be able to pull 20K pretty easily. However more pics and a better description would help it along the way.
