350HP Survivor: 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This 1965 Corvette Convertible is a beautiful survivor every way that you look at it. From the paint to the interior, right down to what lies under the hood, this is a car that is set to impress people at every turn. In 54-years, the Corvette has only had two owners, so now is the time for it to find a third. Located in Warren, Ohio, the Corvette has been listed for sale here on eBay. I don’t find it at all surprising to learn that with the bidding now sitting at $41,000, the reserve hasn’t been met.

I personally think that Glen Green is one of the nicest colors that you are ever likely to find on a Corvette, and on this car, it looks fantastic. The paint is said to be original, and if this is true, then this is a car that appears as though it has been well cared for throughout its life. The original owner retained the vehicle until 1969. From there it went to its current owner, who has now been the custodian of the Corvette for 50-years. It has been garaged for its whole life and has seen limited use. As a result, the paint is not all that presents beautifully. The exterior trim and chrome are in virtually flawless condition, while the original Black soft-top is also said to be beautifully preserved.

Peering inside the Corvette is an absolute pleasure, with the interior presenting just as well as the exterior. The Green leather upholstery on the seats looks soft and supple, with no signs of wear or stretching. In fact, the same is true for all of the upholstered surfaces, making it hard to find anything inside the car to fault. One of the things that really jumps out at me is the condition of the carpet. I will admit that it is showing some slight wear and scuffing on the driver’s side, but it is free of any major wear or fading. That’s not bad for a 54-year-old car. The original owner has followed an interesting path when ordering his car because while it has a telescopic steering column, he chose to make do without a radio. Maybe he decided that the music from the engine bay was all that he needed to hear.

I have no doubt that the tune emanating from the L79, 327ci V8 would be enough to satisfy the most diehard of enthusiasts. This produces a healthy 350hp, which is sent to a 3.70 rear end by a close-ratio 4-speed transmission. As with every other aspect of this Corvette, originality is the key. The only components that are not original are the 2½” exhaust, which was recently sourced from Corvette Central, and a replacement master cylinder. Even so, the original master cylinder has been boxed-up and is included with the car. Everything else, from the alternator, through to the distributor, carburetor, and the radiator, are all original. So, how does it drive? In the owner’s words, “This car runs and drives unbelievable!’ I think that says it all, really.

The people who have been bidding on this Corvette to date are nothing if not enthusiastic. That explains why we are only two days into a ten-day listing, and there have already been an astonishing 85 bids made on the car. There are people out there who obviously want this one badly, and I can’t say that I blame them. It really is a beautiful survivor.

Did I miss the e-mail regarding “National Sell Your Vintage Corvette Week”?

“Watkins” Glen Green would have been a more proper name for that shade. Don’t know why GM half-assed that opportunity.

A Glen Green with Saddle Tan interior with 32,000 miles on it sits in the backyard of the house across the street from me. It was parked there with a caliper problem in 1976. Yes, 1976! And it is still there sitting out in the elements. And it looks like it has sat out for 43 years. The paint is covered with lichen and the tires are flat and the rocker panels are solidly on the ground. But the owner may want to do something with it one day, though. Too bad we now have to pay to post pictures or I would.

Great looking car but whether it’s a good value or not depends on the reserve. Speaking of reserves, that irritates the heck out of me. If the want a given $$ then set the sale with that as the minimum. No more of this crap of buy something as a high bidder then have a ‘oh you didn’t exceed the reserve’ crap.

The one thing i would replace would be the vacuum advance. After all this time, it may not even be working. Not sure if you can VISUALLY verify proper operation on a small block while moving the accelerator linkage under the hood, like you can with a 60’s chevy 250 vac adv.
Imagine how the looks of this(& the next gen) would be ruined with all the cheap black plastic addons on modern vettes.

The ignition shielding only came on cars ordered with radios. Something is not matching up here.

Gorgeous! Not a radio delete car but a radio not ordered car…1 of about 1400. Plus it is a drum brake car…one of about 300.
    I’m thinking $70’s…
