The mountains of California always make a beautiful backdrop for photos, and this setting was what first drew me into this 1966 Ford Galaxie. The 1965 cars got an all-new design with a more bulky and taller stance than their predecessors, with a massive front end and vertically-stacked headlights, which all carried over to the ’66 model. This 1966 Ford Galaxie Fastback has recently received some refreshing, and sort of gives off a minimalist look from the side with the white powder-coated wheels, contrasted with a retro vibe in the front with those orange covers over the high beams. The car is located in Azusa, California, and can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $19,500.
Barn Finds reader Pat L. spotted this one and sent it our way, and as always we’d like to thank him for sharing another great find! Other than the seller telling us that his Galaxie has been a California car since new, we really don’t get much more information about the car’s history, and it would have been nice to know if any sort of bodywork was done before the new Wimbledon White Paint was applied. Unless it’s just an odd camera angle or how the sun is hitting it, the back bumper looks like it may have been lightly tapped at some point, but other than that everything on the outside is looking more than acceptable for a driver.
The interior has recently received new carpeting, and the seats have been reupholstered with new black cloth material. I wasn’t expecting to see those power seat buttons on the driver’s side, a nice luxurious surprise when you open the door, and the car is also equipped with power windows except for the air flaps upfront. No word on whether or not anything else inside has received any attention, and other than whatever that dash cover is hiding everything else in there is looking decent, and pretty much stock except for the trio of gauges under the dashboard.
The Galaxie is powered by a big block 390 cubic-inch FE V8 with a new Edelbrock carburetor, paired with Ford’s C6 automatic transmission, the latter of which was just introduced by the company in ’66. The seller doesn’t say whether or not these are the original parts or if either has ever had a rebuild, but everything under the hood is tidy and looks like it means business. We don’t get any photos from underneath but are told there’s a new dual exhaust system down below, and hopefully being in the Golden State for all these years has been kind to the components on the south side. What are your thoughts on this 1966 Ford Galaxie Fastback?

This is a sweet ride. I always loved the looks of the ’66.
Not mentioned is why a car this old, comes to have recent-issue California tags.
Remember, California, unlike most states, keeps the license plates with the CAR and transfers the OWNERS’ names. Once a car is registered in California, plates stay with it for its life – or until it’s legally registered out of state. Even then, I believe, with antique cars, re-registration of old period-appropriate plates is permitted.
This should have had six-digit yellow-on-blue plates.
So…was it off the road for decades? Brought in from Arizona? Why the new registration, just before sale?
Maybe one of the plates was lost or the back plate stolen. California requires two plates and doe not replace just one. Since we are not given a vin# we can’t check on any sites as to it’s history (I use beenverified)

Progress…doesn’t always mean better just forward movement, as seen here in this ’66 full size Ford,, from the decade of some of the best looking cars ever made by everyone. You just don’t see new cars with styling like this anymore or for decades really, I mean really one look at an all white Galaxie with white steelies no caps and “we’re off to the races fully sponsored by Holman/Moody!” Nice ride!
It’s just ok. Someone is trying awful hard to duplicate the “look” but fall short. A 2 door hardtop with steelies is a just too muck fakery. Now if it was a 2 door post I could have bought into the look.
