The popular Ford Mustang got its first restyle in 1967, although it still rode on the Falcon platform that originally inspired it. One of the big changes for the new model year was that the engine compartment was enlarged to accommodate a big-block V8 engine, the 390. The seller’s car is both a fastback and has that engine, but the entire car is going to need a complete restoration. The Ford is in Memphis, Tennessee where the bidding has been brisk here on eBay. $30,100 so far and the reserve is still unmet.
What do you do for an encore when you sell more than 1.2 million cars in two ½ years? You leave the concept alone and just refresh the package. That’s what Ford did with the Mustang in 1967. The car was a bit bigger and bolder and truly entered the muscle car market with the addition of the 390 engine. Though three new competitors would enter the scene that year, Ford still sold 472,000 Mustangs, including more than 71,000 fastbacks, like the seller’s car. We don’t know how many fastbacks had the 390 engine, but considering that 28,800 Mustangs overall came with one, it’s likely that the number is around 4-5,000 copies.
Though it ended up in the South, we’re told the seller’s car originated in California. It left the factory with Acapulco Blue paint and a black interior. However, it’s hard to tell that now given the overall condition of the car today. While it’s probable there is rust hiding where you can’t see it, what’s concerning is how poorly the sheet metal seems to fit together. Maybe the seller just didn’t bother to close the trunk lid or hood before taking photos, or do they have trouble lining up? The right front fender may be just hung on for appearances as it doesn’t line up properly either and the wheels all seem to be rubbing up against the wheel wells. Are the tires just too big for the car or is there something else going on?
We assume the engine under the hood is original to the car, but we don’t know that. But the VIN tell us it had a 390 from the factory. And several parts are missing including the radiator, so it’s a safe bet that a total rebuild is going to be needed. The motor is paired with an automatic transmission, condition unknown. The seller says a Marti Report accompanies the car, but you can’t read anything off it from the photo and we’re not told what it says. The car has a black interior, but the seats are dislodged, and the interior is full of stuff, which we assume are parts that will come with the car.
The odometer reading is said to be 58,763, which is rather low for a car to have just been parked. For thirty large, a few more details from the seller would be in order, but enough bidders must have confidence that this is a car that will eventually be worth more than its acquisition cost plus the expense of doing a full restoration.
The ratchet straps don’t offer much hope…
This is proof that a fool and his money soon part company. This thing needs to be put to rest in a crusher.
This kind of chewed up car will just keep the prices high…Overpriced big time…
Nice photo of the Marti Report. Too bad you can’t read it…
That’s the Marti Report? I thought it was the waste paper from the owner after eating a bean burrito go figure!
The engine in the picture has a 2 barrel setup…if it was an S code it would have a 4 barrel…so either someone slapped a 2 barrel on the original engine (not likely) or it is a different engine…and I am shocked there are 30 bids so far, pushing the price over 30K…
Yea Flmikey lots of suspect bogus bidders there. Looks like the engine was just plopped in there. Be scared. Know what you are buying.
Cheers

This car is white trying to hide the pounds of fiberglass in rear quarters.
New skins needed and the shock towers are apart for some reason along with top cross braces missing.
It could be nice after 17-30 grand added to and praying the build date on block works and block is not cracked or rod shoved thru it.
Needless to say being in Memphis one can get the actual blues with the repairs.
I’ve got the rustang blues .. oh baby i got the blues…
Another screaming deal! Where do I send my cash? Not.
Lots of money for that thing!
Connecticut Mark….
Remember, there is always room for another bid, it’s not too late to get your dream car…
This one’s got Bullitt written all over it. As
for the price, the seller needs to put down
what he’s smokin’ and drop the price by
a few zeros.
That’s the price it’s been BID to thus far.
At what point does “Barn Finds” rebrand itself “Copart Finds” ?
A Mopar club I was in years ago held a charity fund raiser where, for a buck you banged on a car with a sledgehammer. The car we sacrificed was a white 68 GT390 fastback. Not much wrong with it at first.
That rises to the same level of idiocy as the Harley club that sledgehammered a 1969 Honda CB750 sand cast!
Gotta love that rear shackle sticking thru the missing trunk floor. I would be scared to see what is left of the frame rails. Hell, the car can’t even hold itself together with the assistance of ratchet straps.

30,000 and start fixing:-)
Can’t you get a pretty nice fastback for 35k or am I out of touch?
jeez, take the 30k and run like hell.
That car is a pig. Looks like they used house paint on it. Buyer beware.
Fish56….
Your wrong…they used white-out to remove rust…
looks like there is one too many zero’s….yikes….
PT Barnum once said “A fool and his money are soon parted”, some real fools bidding here.
Radiator hose cut just like what happens at the parts yard, previously known as the junk yard, when the engines are pulled out.
