This 1987 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 IROC-Z has generated significant interest since hitting the market. It has a genuine 39,000 miles on the clock, presents beautifully, and is loaded with factory options. Therefore, the intense auction action is unsurprising. It is ideal for enthusiasts seeking a high-end driver that they can enjoy immediately. The seller has listed the Camaro here on eBay in Saratoga Springs, New York. The bidding has raced to $16,200, which is below the reserve.

Chevrolet adopted a conservative approach to cosmetic changes to its Third Generation Camaro for the 1987 model year. The most obvious change was relocating the high-mounted brake light to the rear spoiler on most cars, although it stayed in its original location on cars without spoilers. Ordered by its first owner in Code 40 White, this Camaro’s presentation is first-rate. The mirror-like paint and arrow-straight panels are consistent with the mileage claim. There are no cosmetic issues worth noting, and even the prone lower front spoiler region looks remarkably clean. Rust isn’t a problem, and this car undoubtedly scores extra points for its glass T-Top. The graphics look crisp and free from checking, and the unique 16″ IROC-Z aluminum wheels are in good condition.

The first owner obviously chose to combine performance with comfort when ordering this Camaro, and that approach is demonstrated by the interior’s long list of creature comforts. The buyer will receive air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, a power driver’s seat, a power hatch release, cruise control, a roof console, and a leather-wrapped tilt wheel. The car retains its original AM/FM radio/cassette player, which the seller custom-upgraded to Bluetooth compatibility. Trimmed in a combination of Red cloth and vinyl, the interior presents exceptionally well for a classic of this vintage. There is no significant seat wear, the dash looks excellent, and a set of Z28 mats protects the carpet. Although the seller doesn’t mention evidence verifying their mileage claim, this Camaro’s interior presentation makes the figure seem plausible.

Buyers ordering a 1987 IROC-Z could select the 305ci V8, which provided adequate performance, but this car’s first owner craved more beneath their right foot. Therefore, they ticked the box beside the 5.7-liter TPI V8, placing 225hp and 330 ft/lb of torque at their disposal. There was no manual transmission available with that motor in 1987, with this car featuring a four-speed automatic. By selecting the IROC Option Package #3, they also received an engine oil cooler and a 3.27 limited-slip rear end. The listing indicates that potential buyers can consider the Camaro a turnkey proposition. With the sale including the Window Sticker, Dealer Invoice, and dealership literature, this low-mile classic continues to tick all the right boxes that would typically command a top-end sale price.

Once you scroll through the listing images and assess what this 1987 Camaro Z28 IROC-Z offers potential buyers, it is easy to understand why it has received forty-three bids. With ninety-five people adding this classic to their Watch List, the indications are that the already impressive auction action could intensify during the final hours. A car of this caliber should comfortably surpass $20,000, although recent successful sales suggest that it could knock on the door of $30,000. Would you be interested in this IROC-Z at that price, or do you feel a lower figure is more appropriate?

Last time it was listed on eBay, the high bid was $28,000 but did not meet reserve.

Never been smoked in. Has original valve stem dust caps, and original air in tires.

He’s gonna have to come down if he really wants to sell it. A nice specimen, though. Most of these got thrashed out back in their day.

My senior year in high school is when this car came out. The parking lot at my local White Castle was full of these. I still think this is the best looking Camaro ever.

Same here. My older brothers friend bought a burgundy one brand new with the 350 and auto. He was originally going for the 305 5 speed ( he preferred manuals), but test drove the 350, and well…. Bob’s your uncle. Sadly it got stolen, was partially stripped, but was recovered. After all the repairs, it just wasn’t the same and he sold it shortly afterwards. This one looks great!!!

I graduated from high school a year earlier and yeah, these were the cool cars to have. I still remember these cars had a certain exhaust note.

There was a commercial back then of two young brothers in their bedroom, listening out their window to cars driving by their house at night. One brother identified a car as an IROC-Z Camaro and the engine size as well. Then the brother said to him, “Yeah…but what color is it?” 😂

Oops, found the commercial. Was for 1996 though.

If it has that mileage, it wasn’t driven much, and sitting isn’t a good thing for cars. Valve stem seals and other seals get hard, and rings stick; gaskets fail. The other thing is, these cars are easy to clock, so who knows.

So you would rather have one with 120k miles? Either way you’re gonna spend some money. Lower mileage is more important because it wasn’t beat to crap its entire life and the paint is still strong. Easy to clock maybe but if you have ownership history it’s easy enough to figure out. It’s a nice piece. Overpriced maybe but still nice

Point one is, who knows what the real mileage is. Point two is, if it’s been sitting a lot, it’s going to need reconditioning. Either way, he’s asking too much and that’s borne out by it not selling…

Such a gorgeous Camaro. All the right stuff for the boulevard or open road.

Really sweet looking Camaro. Remember when these were everywhere back in the 80’s, now they’re just a memory. The 3rd gen. was the last really good looking ones in my opinion.

Had a grey one back in the early 90s decided to sell it when I took it in for tiers and they used one of those lifts that pick it up under the floors and you could hear a pop, pop as the tiers left the ground got me wondering about the unibody construction with the TV tops not long after I traded it for a truck

They were pretty flexible. Turn left and see the dashboard go to the right. There were kits for subframe connectors, and one could even put partial or full roll cages in them to stiffen them up. With the hard top, they were prone to getting cracks in the sheet metal at the corner of the B post/sail panel and the roof. You wouldn’t see it on a t-top car, obviously.

I had a 1987 Trans Am with the 305 (TBI) and a 5 speed. Typically loaded and in the classic bright red/silver ground effects and gray cloth. Sadly, it got stolen and they found it 3 days later (Monday) and it went four wheeling and was absolutely destroyed, no body panel was left undamaged, no glass unbroken (even the T-Tops) and it looked like they took a chainsaw to the interior. It looked like they took a 12 lb. sledge hammer to the top of the motor (TBI, A/C compressor, alternator & valve covers we all victims).
