4-Door Marauder! 1964 Mercury Park Lane

Disclosure: Barn Finds may receive compensation from clicks and purchases. Use caution when purchasing vehicles long distance. We recommend inspections before sending money.

Beginning in mid-1963, the Marauder sub-series was introduced as a sports/performance take on Mercury’s full-size automobiles. And a 4-door hardtop joined the mix in 1964 along with the 2-door fastback. It was available in all trim levels, so the seller’s ’64 Park Lane Marauder was the top-of-the-line Mercury. The seller describes this car as a running project, but the photos show it in a better light (it’s usually the other way around). Located in Winsted, Minnesota, this hot Merc is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $6,900. Thanks for the tipper, NW Iowa Kevin!

In 1964, there were three series of full-size Mercurys (excluding station wagons). The Monterey, Montclair, and Park Lane – and they could all be ordered as a Marauder. This one, as a 2-door fastback, and a 390 cubic inch V8 with an automatic transmission, has plenty of get-up-and-go for a car of its size. The mid-size muscle car revolution had not yet begun, so car manufacturers like Mercury tried to make their bigger autos more appealing to the growing horsepower generation.

This Mercury has traveled 118,500 miles, about right for a 62-year-old automobile. We’re told it starts, drives, and runs just fine and takes full advantage of its 300-rated hp. New brakes, carburetor, and exhaust are all contributors to its performance. Lots of spare parts will come with the sale to help take the car to the next level. The seller thinks this could be a 25th Anniversary edition, but no verification has been completed.

The seller rates the condition of the Merc as ‘fair” because it has a bit of rust and the interior is not perfect (a new headliner should be on the to-do list). But it seems like more than a capable weekend driver and should impress the Cars & Coffee crowd. If you are looking for a solid, restorable, running vehicle that’s not out there in mass quantities, could this Merc be for you? Only 3,658 Park Lane Marauder 4-door fastbacks were built that year.

Nicely optioned car, I’d fix what’s needed, and enjoy it for what it is, a well-optioned family car that goes when you step on it!

good to see the factory wheel covers included. i’d ditch those wheels and white-letter tires for sure. they’re nice, but they look out of place here. thin whitewalls and the wheel covers for sure.

If the hubcaps all come with the car I’d put steelies back on with one set, take your pick. I’m not a fan of four doors either but these early sixties full size cars look good either way, looks like a great way to get into the hobby.

Love the styling and the color. This one is definitely worthy of attention for a modest restoration effort; just what’s needed.

  5. I don’t mind 4 doors as long as it’s a Hardtop. Loved the 4dr Hardtop on Hawaii 5 O. I have a 2dr HT 65 Marauder and love the 390 FE engine. I’m not a hubcap fan so I went with Cragars. This is is fairly priced for what it is and also a driver condition car.

Like the color. 1964 was the 25th anniversary of Mercury so all cars were labeled that. Park Lanes came with a special steering wheel.

With this particular roof line, I think this was the best looking 4 door car of 1964 -if not the entire decade.

Write-up was confusing….this IS a 4dr hdtp. Love the rare pwr windows, but what happened to the armrests?

Initially I liked the color, but the photos revealed it’s a color change respray, and a bad one at that. Overspray where paint doesn’t belong, missed areas where it should be. Looks like the interior color may have been changed also – gray seems to be flaking off right rear door card with a brighter color (turquoise?) underneath.

Tis a color change, Sarge, but I kinda like it. The interior is a JCWhitney nightmare. Wrong carpet and seat material both in type and color. Looks like 1970’s stuff. Very off in a 60’s car. However the price is good enough to be a driving project. 👌🏼👍🫶🏼

I thought this was the one I saw at the Hastings, Mn. car show yesterday but that one had bucket seats, automatic on a console, and neutral vinyl interior. Same exterior color or close to it.
    No breezeway either.
I like how the a/c vents are hidden until you pull them open like an ashtray.
I don’t know why people put rwl tires & mags on cars like these; looks so out of place.
Not bad money, but being in the land of 10,000 dot salt trucks, gotta look underneath and underneath the trunk mat. I saw a car for sale yesterday that had a puddle underneath the trunk mat and the surface rust was started on it’s way to troubles.

I’m sure you’re aware it’s a 4 door, and all 1964 Mer urys were 25th anniversary models..it was inscribed in the steering wheel center medallion…

Beautiful car. I’ve never seen a 1964 Mercury Marauder. I find it way more attractive to look at than the 1965 model. I hope whoever buys it enjoys it.

This is a very nice car for its age with being all original, and with being all original will be a great asset with its rarity and 300 horsepower and at this price and being a mercury you can’t go wrong sharp car that will look really nice with just some cleanup and a minimal investment.
