1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback S-Code 390

Another Mustang? Yes, another Mustang, one that might not initially garner much attention. But upon further review, this 1967 GT has a bit of a story and invites questions, so let’s examine further. It’s located in Montello, Wisconsin and is available, here on eBay for a current bid of $27,300, reserve not yet met. There’s a BIN option of $80,000 (?!) too.

The listing for this Mustang is light, too light really with only five images and just a modicum of text. Actually, it’s surprising that the bid count, twenty-six, is as high as it is. Being a “GT” means that this Mustang would have originally been V8 equipped with other equipment including, grille-mounted fog lights, wide-oval tires, power front disc brakes, handling package, low restriction dual exhaust with quad tips on the S-code 390 and “Cobra” 289 engines and a GT lower body stripe. Our subject car presents well with a consistent finish and no signs of crash damage or rust. The blacked-out hood treatment is more reminiscent of a later day Mach I and the Cragar S/S wheels are period correct.

The interior featuring appears to have been an afterthought as it is barely photographed and the one image presented is taken from a distance. From what can be seen, it looks to be in good shape, it’s the standard Mustang black vinyl arrangement and there are no indications of rips, tears, splits, cracks, etc. And owing to its model year, the steering wheel as the center knob thingee found on all ’67 Fords.

OK, time for the letdown. This originally equipped S-code, 320 HP, 390 CI V8 engine Mustang is now in possession of a non-descript 302 CI Windsor motor. That’s it, no further description. To make matters worse, there’s no listing image either. Admittedly the 390 is no great shakes and a 302 can be built into a high-winding powerhouse but one would have to assume that’s not the case since there’s no visual evidence or encouraging description. So, how’s it run with the 302? Who knows, no word.

So, little description, few images, and ostensibly, a less desirable engine but you can dispense with all that auction silliness. All you have to do is just layout 80,000 clams and this Dearborn Dynamo can be yours. Really? That’s right, now talk about that among yourselves. Considering that price and the current bidding, my bet is this first round isn’t going to cut it, what says you?

IMO the BIN happens when cows, pigs or donkeys, depending on your preferred farm animal, flies.

I have been to Arizona, Hot most of the time. A very nice state. I do not want to live there. I would (if I had the money $80,000 dollars) buy this car in a second. You must have your head where the sun does not shine. These Cars are VERY VALUABLE, some have sold for over $165,000. YOU are not on your A game. Oh, by the way, YOU can keep your land in Arizona, it is going to take a long time before the oceans rise to that level.

I’ve owned 2 XR1000’s, 1 Sportster, 2 FXSTS’s and 1 Screamin Eagle Road Glide. I made money on all of them except the SE Road Glide.

The 2 XR1000 models I purchased a year apart fetched an additional $5 and $6k each. One resides in Torino, Italy. This was an $5300 dollar bike that my dealer couldn’t wait for me to sign the paperwork. Both were sold with less than 100 miles.

Harleys market for the last ten years has been a train wreck. Harley’s own doing with overpriced crap. No power, No brakes and No handling unless your dump $10k into the bike.

The Harley owners are very proud of their bikes.. They are the best selling of their class of bike. I would not sell my for it’s weight in Gold. What’s your bike a Honda, or other type of crotch rocket? Harley’s sound great going down the road or sitting still. Yours probably sounds like a sewing machine about to explode and sounds like crap sitting still.

I’ve owned a Triumph, Ducati and BMW and many Harleys. So I think I can do a comparison. Harley only strong points were HD was an Icon and they held their price. No so any more. They have lowered the bar to electric bikes.

The days of the deals are over. Younger generations are not into high performance unless its a computer or phone. A friend who has a dealership tells me he won’t take a standard shift 2 door vehicle unless it close to perfect with decent mileage. Kids don’t know how to shift and 4 doors is a must for all their friends.

Whoa, Nelly! seller has zero feedback. Bidding full of suspect (!!!!) Bids. Very little dialogue, and lousy pics. Scammer could have gotten into the storage space of this one, shot some lousy pics, and Voila! Ebay listing. This thing smells very bad. Good luck and happy bidding.

You know these prices are starting to make me sick, every thing is priced so high that it has taken the fun out of just reading about the car for sale in barn find it just ridiculous, 80 grand.

They have a nice 70 Mach 1 with a BIN at $55k, so no idea how they came up with a $80k price on this.

I don’t understand bad mouthing the 390. I’ve owned several 390 Mustangs in the past. I’d get another but I can no longer afford one. That said mine always ran very well in stock form beating many other muscle cars in the stop light grand prix’s. The big problem with them was getting traction. With a little tweaking they were very strong

I’m don’ know where Rick is getting his information, maybe from a cereal box, but this is no $80K car. It’s not a 1968, which is more valuable than the 67, and it’s not original. Do your homework and keep your crappy attitude to yourself.

SteveH. Please explain to me how a 68 is worth more money than a 67. Not wanting to start an argument. Just curious

SteveH, where a you getting your information from? It sure is not any cereal box. You probably can’t read the well. Your the one with the attitude! Your the one that was bad mouthing this 67 Mustang! Not Me. 1967 was the first year of this body style, This is the original body style, NOT 1968. If the 1968 is more valuable, It was because there was less of the sold, because they were not the original. What is more original I ask you and (any one out there that reads this) The 1967 or the 1968?

I had a 67 Mustang fastback S-code. I see no difference between a 67 and 68. The 68 may be favored because of Bullitt. I see them has the same vehicle.
