The GTX arrived in 1967 as a premium muscle car offered by Plymouth. It would be joined the following year by the more budget-conscious Road Runner. With Chrysler’s B-bodies redesigned in 1968, the GTX enjoyed a 50% bump in sales to its best year out of five. The seller has a gorgeous 1968 GTX finished in red with a black bucket seat interior. With some mechanical improvements, we’re told this is now a “driver’s car” (more civilized?). Located in Del Rio, Texas, this sharp Mopar is available here on eBay. The opening bid of $60,000 has found no takers. There is a reserve, but you can seal the deal right now at $70,000. Thumbs up to “Curvette” for the tip!

Plymouth supposedly picked the name GTX to follow in the footsteps of the Pontiac GTO. But there is no known specific definition of the name other than that it would appeal to buyers of grand touring muscle cars. Like Dodge’s R/T performance cars, the GTX came with a 440 cubic inch V8 as standard fare. The seller has a “Super Commando” 440 under the hood, but no reference is made to numbers matching. And Sniper EFI (fuel injection) has been added to feed the big engine. What does that do to the output?

With 40,000-plus miles, this is either a babied original or some restoration dollars were expended. The seller lists a ton of new parts or recent work, which includes the brakes, wheels, tires, exhaust, shocks, gas tank, and distributor (along with the EFI). Plus, there is a new stereo system to help make driving the 4-speed GTX a greater pleasure. The car has A/C, but the compressor doesn’t look like Mopar fare from back in the day.

The red paint is said to have been touched up, and the car comes with a thick box of service records and other history about the Plymouth. This GTX would be one of 18,940 produced in 1968, up from 12,115 in its debut year in 1967. There was no Dodge counterpart to the GTX unless you count the Charger. Would you give the seller his/her asking price?

Wow Dixon some serious Mopar steel coming over the BF pages lately. 😎 👍🏁
Very nice ride 👌 I always loved those B bodies in red. I like the taillights better on the 68s. They should have stayed with it. Yeah I could love this Mopar
Dodge RT counterpart?
