440 Six-Pack: 1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee

The Super Bee joined the Dodge lineup in 1968 as their version of the Plymouth Road Runner. It was based on the mid-sized Coronet through 1970, then switched to the Charger for the last year. The seller professes to have a ’71 Super Bee with a 440 cubic inch V8 Six-Pack, which looks freshly restored. But no mention is made of that, or if it’s the real deal or a tribute. Jack M. is the source of this tip, and the cool car is in Chicago, Illinois, and available here on craigslist for $30,000.

When Chrysler redesigned its B-bodies in 1971, there was no longer a 2-door hardtop version of the Coronet. So, the Charger served as the basis for the Super Bee in its last year, when just over 5,000 copies were produced. Of those, only 30 are said to have the Six-Pack/4-speed manual transmission combination (69 more had an automatic). If this car is what it proposes to be, why doesn’t the seller make noise about this? Surely, that would have added a premium to the seller’s asking price.

We’re told the odometer reads 11,000 miles. If correct, surely that’s more like 111,000, and this car is simply too nice not to have been redone with that kind of use. Another miss on the seller’s part is photos of the engine compartment – none are provided. While the Dodge is said to have the A33 Track Pak and the N96 Ramcharger hood scoop, the Super Bee stripe was deleted.

With an engine this potent, the car should have more than manual drum brakes, but it doesn’t. But it does have the Rallye suspension with rear leaf springs, front torsion bars, and a front sway bar. The painted steel wheels with dog dish hub caps do add a bit of menace to the look of this Dodge. The seller will not entertain trades. If this car is authentic, this could be a great buy. But if it’s not………….?

Hmmm, reminds me of the 1970 426 Hemi Challenger for $7500 (1982). The car didn’t belong to the seller…. it was a joke played to have people like me calling the number until it was answered. Guy worked at Jack In Box. The “friend” was trying to get him fired.
If this is real ad. Bet it’s already gone. If I was in Chicago, I would buy it this minute. Nice car!

You are right, it sold in Bring A Trailer for $86,000 in June if 2020.

On the hand, maybe the new guy (Blue something) that proclaims that the market for muscle cars is collapsing on every Mopar featured over the last month is right.
