45,000 Mile Survivor: 1960 Chevrolet Corvette

Having passed through three owners in its lifetime, this 1960 Corvette is a very clean surviving example having only one repaint in its lifetime. Reflecting 45,500 miles, the odometer reading is believed to be true on this 4 speed classic. With a beautiful appearance through and through, this Corvette is currently bid up to $44,100. Check it out here on ebay out of Portland, Oregon.

The 283 cubic inch 270 horsepower engine purrs like a kitten. The seller has included a video in the ebay ad that shows some more detail and information about this classic. Clean and tidy this Corvette has definitely been well cared for with its meticulous engine bay. The previous owner had this ‘Vette for 33 years and drove it only 6,000 miles in that time. Unfortunately the easy way to keep a classic car clean is to not drive it.

Near impeccable, this interior is beautifully original with the exception of the seat upholstery. The only downside is the heather red carpet has some minor discoloration on the tunnel in between the seats. The rubber Corvette mats are a little dirty as well, although I would imagine they would clean up somewhat.

From the outside this Chevy almost appears new with its beautiful body work, and clean chrome. The “devil is in the details” but this car must have made a deal with the devil himself. It is miraculous how clean this car is. The screws for the taillights are even bright without any signs of oxidation. One item that does show some age is the hardtop, but only due to the slightly aged weather seals. Definitely a minor gripe for this 57 year old car. Repainted once in its lifetime, with a trouble free body, this beauty looks to only need a very caring owner to maintain and enjoy this great American classic. What do you think this Corvette will sell for?

Couldn’t care less what it sells for, however, it is my all time favorite Corvette. It had an opening trunk, for heavens sake. I never could figure out, how GM thought it was ok to eliminate that very important feature in newer Vettes. And simple to work on. To me, it’s a shame, when someone says “Corvette”, C3’s and 4’s immediately come to mind. Maybe because, as a kid, these C1’s were what were driving around, the “real” Corvette. And if you just happen to have $50g’s laying around doing nothing, buy this,,,”and get your kicks on Route 66″,,,what remains of it, that is.

I don’t have a tape measure handy, but I’m willing to wager my 1984 luggage area has more cubic foot capacity than the 1960 and the C4 back glass is hinged just like a real ‘opening” trunk. It even has a pull-out cover. Alas, no luggage rack.

One of my bucket list items is to drive Route in its entirety, in one fell swoop. Since that’s still in my dreams there’s nothing like my favorite Corvette to drive it. I watched Route 66 onTV years ago and often thought about a trip down that famous highway in a Vette of my own. Well I can still dream can’t I?

Research carefully before embarking on a Route 66 trip. Sections of the old highway which still exist vary a lot in how much interesting signage and architecture are still around. Somewhere like Holbrook AZ can completely make up for the mundaneness of the rest of the Route. Search out those places and have a great time!

Hi Fred. We were in Holbrook last September and had a great time. It certainly increased my desire to tour the entire route. And yes, I’m pretty sure that some parts can get a little monotonous. But I tell people if they want monotony, just drive I-15 from Monida to St. George. There are places you can watch the dog run away for three days…

Not my prefered color scheme but for me these Corvettes are the most beautiful american car ever built and it will be worth every penny.

Unfortunately out of my price range, so I stay with my MGA.

The 58, 59, 60’s are my favorite too, but even your MGA is out of my price range so I’ll have to stick with my 45 year old VW Super Beetle, “Sally!”

Up over $47K now, I’d guess around $60K would buy it. There’s something so honest and appealing about a well cared for unrestored car, especially a classic like this one. Too bad it didn’t get driven more than 6,000 miles in 33 years. Love the engine bay patina, love the car. Great find.

why paint and re up a 45 K car? – from the time when you did that instead of a detail….

I agree. Certainly it will still bring big $$$ but how bad could the orig paint and uphol have been? Also, I find the black headliner odd. They are usually uphol color.
My second vette was a ’59 white with red. Bought it for $850. In 1969.

Did it (Rte 66) in ’64 in a ’63 Vette convert w/HT. Left soft top at home for luggage space.

The HT on my ’61 ( bought in ’64; same color scheme & powertrain as e-Bay car) had a white headliner.

I had a 1960 just like this one and the headliner was red same as the rest of the interior..

That is one sweet ride. It’s also nice to see there are still some original cars around. This one’s close to home and very tempting…

No mention of the missing ignition shielding or whether the car has a positraction rear end. Aside from the incorrect mufflers, the undercarriage looks great.

Beautiful Vette. My favorite generation and color. Way out of my budget. Hopefully the new owner will love it as much as the last one.

Love it. Only nit I can see is over the cove on the drivers side, trim does not appear to line up between the fender and the door.
I hear others on driving Rt 66, bought my Vette in New Mexico and drove a lot of it bringing the car back to Mn. plus I’ve driving other parts of it over the years but not in one run. Couple of years from now I want to do as much as possible to the Pacific. I’ve been collecting maps and guides on what’s left of Rt 66 for the last couple of years, when I see a good one I get it right away just to have it.

    Happy Fathers day everyone.

The headliner in my 61 Roman Red with White coves and black interior is white. I have owned my car since 1972 and have never seen one with a black headliner before.

Anyone know what’s up with the State of Iowa VIN tag ? That’s not one of those they issue in the case of a Salvage title, a missing factory VIN plate or something along those lines is it… ? Nice to know before the sale-as opposed to standing in line at the DMV or at the local Cars and Coffee… Just asking…

I’m not seeing reference to an Iowa Vin, where are you seeing that?

There’s a set of 4 pictures grouped together on the eBay ad. One with the block number, the grille, then a red ID tag from the State of Iowa. The type the state issued if there is a problem-at least that’s been my experience but I could be way off base here

White is refreshing and red is the must have color for this interior. It’s the color combo that takes you right back to the day these were in the neighborhood. We had one this combo in the neighborhood but he had a green fire breathing dragon painted on the trunk. We made up a song…”white Corvette with the dragon on the back”.
Makes me miss my ’58 which I made to mirror my dad’s when I was 5.
