When it comes to the Hurst/Olds, the 1975 model may not be the first one to come up in a conversation at your local car show. Sure, their predecessors may have had more muscle and overall excitement, but if you think back to what a sad period the mid-seventies were in the muscle car era, the ’75 Hurst/Olds was sort of a knight in shining armor. For its time period, the car still offered some decent performance, plus the design added a few luxury elements that helped it appeal to some prior muscle car buyers who perhaps had matured a bit since their last automotive purchase. Two V8 engines were offered, the L34 Oldsmobile 350 and L74 Olds 455, and the good news here is that the 1975 Hurst/Olds W30 available here on Craigslist is equipped with the latter. This car is located in Norwood, Massachusetts, and has an asking price of $16,900.
Barn Finds wants to thank reader Pat L. for another great tip on this one! While the car is not perfect, it’s got plenty of good things going for it, not the least being that it’s also a W-30 optioned example. Of the 2,535 Hurst/Olds cars that were manufactured in ’75, only 1,193 came with the W-30 package. The seller says that this is a California blue plate vehicle that was just recently moved to the East Coast, and it retains most of its original paint but with some battle scars and body imperfections. The car is said to have no body rust, and from what we can see underneath everything appears to be solid and well preserved.
The Hurst/Olds came with a formal roofline that eliminated the rear side windows, which really made it stand out from the rest of the Cutlass lineup. The interior looks inviting and comes with swivel bucket seats, plus the car has the H/O digital tachometer, which the seller says was a very rare option. One of the T-Top panels has a crack, but only one layer of the glass is affected and it does not leak. The car is also equipped with power windows, power steering, power brakes, and a rear sway bar.
The 455 is said to be numbers-matching, and although it only produced 190 horsepower for 1975, the seller calls it a torque monster with plenty of low-end muscle. The numbers-matching Turbo 400 automatic transmission is also still in place, which has been rebuilt and includes a new torque converter and shift kit, with the rear end having the standard 2.56 gears. If you’d like to see a short walk-around video, one has been provided here for viewing. What are your thoughts on this 1975 Hurst/Olds W-30?
Nice! I hate when these cars leave California, then I want to bring them back home! If it was here in CA, I believe it would have sold already for higher price.
That driver’s front fender doesn’t look rust free to my tired eyes.
Miss cars having labels for the lighter and ashtray!
I miss cars having real words instead of unintelligible symbols on the knobs and controls!
2.56 final drive. A 3.08 would do wonders with the torquey big block.
Great looking cars 👍
3.55
Best car for the money I have seen in a LOOOOOOOONG time.
Fair price. The black one for over 30000 is way to much and doesn’t have as much as this car does. Nice looking car, like the t top look.
T-tops and swivel buckets, sweet!!
Great looking 442. Not all CA cars are rust free, especially saltwater cars that have lived near the Coast. They can be rusty in extreme places like the trunk and roofline.
I drove 4 hours to Mass two weeks ago to look at this car. The price has dropped $1,000 since I saw it. I can tell you there is zero rust on this car. Paint ok, but I climbed underneath in for a good 20 minutes. The worst part of the car is the drivers door. Looks like something was done there. Vinyl top near perfect.. No rust. Inside the trunk, totally original GM spatter paint. One tear in drivers seat. Ac blows cold. I drove it about 5 miles. Runs excellent. All lights, wipers, horn work. Passenger t top cracked. Needs paint. I was ready to drive it home, but wife says Corvette has to go first. I still may purchase this car. He showed me clean title in his name and copy of original Calif title. Seller got it on eBay in 2017. Very tight car just needing a few cosmetics.
If you really want one of these cars it may be time for some serious negotiating with your wife! Promise her that the Corvette will be sold ASAP. Doubtful you’ll find a better one for the money, all things considered. Good luck!
If needs a little paint work but looks like a nice car to play with. It should sound so nice with the Flow Masters.
