In 1971, Jeep changed the name of their pickups from Gladiator to either the 1/2-ton J-10 or 3/4-ton J-20. There were several special editions but this example isn’t one of them and that’s not a bad thing. The seller has this clean-looking 1978 Jeep J-10 4×4 pickup posted here on craigslist. They’re asking $26,000 and it’s located in Rising Fawn, Georgia. Here is the original listing.
The seller says that his J-10 has been repainted in its original colors. They go on to say that they bought it a year ago from the original owner and it has received a light restoration so it’s a driver, not a trailer queen. Jeep 4×4 pickup and trailer queen don’t really go together in my world, so that’s nice to hear. The next owner should be able to enjoy this one without worrying too much about it.
The seller doesn’t say that it’s rust-free but that it “has always lived in a rust-free climate” and they provide a few underside photos between the craigslist ad and the Clasiq Auction page. Most of the finishes have been redone inside and out, but it would have been nice to see it in its original condition. Jeep offered pickups from 1962 to 1988 under four different owner groups: Kaiser, Willys-Jeep, AMC, and Chrysler. The bed looks solid inside from what we can see.
The seller doesn’t show an overall interior photo of the dashboard for some reason, even with over 100 photos on the auction site, there isn’t one photo showing the entire face of the dash. They do show a lot of detailed photos and many others on the auction site, so check out that link to see more of this Jeep. The seat has been reupholstered and it looks nice but the dash has some typical cracking around the speaker holes on the top of the dash. They mention that the windshield is new as is the weatherstripping and rubber floor mat.
The engine is an AMC 258 cubic-inch inline-six which would have had 112 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque and it’s backed up by a three-speed manual transmission. The seller has provided a nice video here on YouTube to see this Jeep running and driving. It has a new battery, radiator core, and gas tank and it sounds like it’s ready to go. Any thoughts on this Jeep?
Love it. 360 would be better, but it’s OK.
Love this truck and the period color scheme. My dad had one of the last J-10’s new when I was a kid and I believe it was a 1987. I think 1988 were the last ones.
That might be a pretty good truck. At least it had a decent engine & not that awful Tornado OHC monstrosity!
new auction aite?
I had a 75 J10. Bought new for $4000. No options. Had to add the radio and lock out hubs. It was Renegade Blue. Traded in on an 86 GMC S15 Jimmy. Wish I still had it.
