48k-Mile Original? 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

“Move over, Ford Mustang” is probably what Chevrolet said in 1967 when they introduced the new Camaro to compete with it. And the Camaro quickly established itself as the second best-seller in the “pony car” segment at nearly 221,000 units in the first year. The Rally Sport was popular and featured hideaway headlights during the car’s first generation (1967 to 1969). This nice ’67 Camaro RS is said to be a survivor-quality car, but the paint and interior suggest they may have been redone at some point.

How rare is a 1967 Camaro Rally Sport convertible? It looks like 19,856 Camaros were built as V8 drop-tops that year. And 29% of all Camaros had the RS option, while 21% had a 4-speed manual transmission. So, if you do the math, that might work out to about 1,200 copies. With the likely survival rate after 57 years, this is probably a fairly rare automobile today.

We’re guessing there’s a 327 cubic inch V8 under the hood to go with that 4-speed. We’re told that pair came with the Chevy when it was assembled at the Norwood plant in ‘67. The body panels are original, too, and the automobile is said to be rust-free. Cosmetically, the car doesn’t show its 48,000 indicated miles, so have the paint and interior been restored?

We don’t know how many owners have cherished this Chevy, but the seller does indicate having maintenance records going back to 1974. This could be one of the nicest Camaro RS convertibles left and it’s in Houston, Texas, where it’s available here on craigslist for $22,000. This car should attract attention wherever it goes! We wouldn’t have cool tips like this without Barn Finder T.J.!

Why is it one gets the too good to be true on price here?

If your a local go by the Craig’s list add by chance carefully go see why a 38-45 grand car is so cheap.

Car has been painted (you can see white painted bolts that should be bare in the underhood shot) and engine compartment fluffed up, but the interior looks unrestored original to me. If you have seen enough nice original interiors, you can tell the difference at a glance between original seat vinyl and door panels versus the repros.

But regardless, the ad HAS to be a scam at that price ….

It’s a four-letter word; sale or scam. I’m leaning the latter.

One would think, but it’s easy to stall for a couple of days, or upcoming weekend, while you get potential buyers desperate for a deal to wire you a deposit.

What is wrong with this picture? Kinda head scratcher to me.
My gut feeling would be, 1. Doesn’t exist or 2. Doesn’t exist.

    Have a great day ya’all ! !

Jay Leno is right: the first iteration of a new marque is the best. The ‘67 RS is beautiful, pure design.

All kinds of red flags on this one. Read the ad itself. “The motor, transmission, etc. were built for the car at the Norwood assembly plant”…Well duh…How about the 327 2bbl V8 is original, no rebuild, etc. The lack of detail for anyone who would be remotely interested in this car is telling all on its own…

I had a 68 Camaro convertible RS/SS for a short time, white with blue interior. The SS came with a 350 2 barrel as standard, first of the 350’s as Corvette didn’t get one until 68.
Also was a power glide 2 speed auto. SS’s had the fake hood vents as one different item.

I am in the process of restoring a 1967 Camaro RS with a 327/275hp. My dad gave me the car when it looked like I might graduate from the University of Arizona in 1968. After graduation, I took a job in Houston, Texas, with a company car, and I thought the car would start to rust. My dad asked that I get the car fixed up and bring it back to New Mexico, which I did. My brother ended up with the car and has stored it for the last 30 years. My brother died, and I ended up with the car, and I am having it restored in Phoenix. The car could be considered a true survivor with actual miles of less than 100K. Not bad for a 57-year-old car.

I am restoring a 1967 Camoro RS 327ci/275 HP. It has been in the family for 57 years, stored for 40 years, and is now being restored in Phoenix. This is how a survivor surfaces with less than 100,000 miles.
