5-Speed Conversion: 1992 Lincoln Mark VII

Personal luxury coupes were still holding their position in the marketplace in 1992, with the Lincoln Mark VII representing this segment more than ably.  The Mark series had already been in production for decades by this time, which included the Mark VII being produced from 1984 to 1992, with the moniker finally ending in 1998 when the last Mark VIII rolled off the assembly line.  This 1992 Mark VII has undergone some custom touches, both mechanically and cosmetically, and appears to be a fun and luxurious cruiser.  Tony Primo spotted this one here on Craigslist in Tampa, Florida, and we’d like to give him a thumbs up for sending us the tip!  Given the uniqueness here, it’s challenging to determine a fair cost, but the asking price of $9,500 may be in the ballpark.

Checking out the exterior, it’s almost hard to imagine that this body started as green.  It’s not specified whether the change to black was performed under the seller’s tenure or before, but the condition of the panels appears way above average, and black is a bad hue if you’re trying to hide any defects.  Whoever applied the respray seems to have done a fine job, and for some additional fun, LSC emblems were added to the fenders.  This one wasn’t born the more upscale Luxury Sports Coupe, but it certainly looks plenty sporty outside and luxurious inside.  One area that still needs attention is the plastic lights up front, as they are faded and would benefit from some replacement lenses.

During their earlier years, a few Mark VIIs came with a turbodiesel six-cylinder engine sourced from BMW.  However, most were powered by a 5.0-liter V8 such as this, with the seller mentioning that this one’s also equipped with the same HO version that can be found in the Mustang GT.  A couple of custom touches are the BBK headers and Magnaflow exhaust, but the most appealing performance feature is probably the transmission.  Only an automatic was originally available, but this one’s been swapped to a 5-speed manual, which the seller says makes the car a lot more enjoyable to drive.

Most of the interior still features the stock components, but those front buckets are said to be from a Mustang.  The condition inside seems adequate overall for a nice driver, although it’s unknown what all that aftermarket dash cover may be concealing.  The mods here seem well-thought-out, and with the 5-speed, I’m guessing this one’s probably a blast to get behind the wheel of.  What are your thoughts on this 1992 Lincoln Mark VII, and its asking price of $9.5k?

Only thing I would change is the wheels. A set of BBSs and this would be absolute aces in my book

💯 Mitchell… nice hot rod Lincoln here. The Ford shifter looks right at home. LSC seats are even more plush, but those Mustang ones look fine too. 🏁 thanks Stephens

This is pretty cool. I always liked the Mark VII’s, they give off a kind of a Mustang-GT-in-a-tux vibe. For this one the tux has a definite sporty look and feel, specifically due to the 5-speed transplant. The interior is two-tone to the extreme. New headlights, and perhaps different wheels as Mitchell notes, and this would be a great driver. Not expensive.

This is a nice one. Ok a new set of headlights and oem wheels will set you back for minimal cash outlay. The five speed conversion is a bright spot. Only maybe sore point the Mustang seats don’t match the rear but again an easy fix

My late Father owned three Lincoln Mark VII LSCs. The power leather bucket seats were one of the best features of the car. Too bad they got removed from this example.

A Mark VII with a manual? Pretty sweet, it looks factory optional, to my eyes. And I had no idea that Ford offered a BMW turbodiesel in these cars, I can’t say I’ve ever seen one offered for sale. Thanks for the knowledge upgrade.

I see the seller has also already done the usual easy 5.0 mods for more power. Nice. As others have mentioned, I’d source some basket-weave BBS wheels, or even the sharp black OEM wheels, and call it a day. Nice price.

Love me a Lincoln. That five speed should have been offered in the first place. Excellent move. The interior would look better in black and red though IMHO. good price.

    Dang! I’m $9499 short! Lol
I’d love to park this at my house. She’d get treated like a Queen. But not a trailer queen!

No need to go to expensive BBSs, ’99 Marquis had a look alike. I had my rims polished and the centers painted gold, close enough for me!

    Nice! What a beauty.

We had the non-LSC version and liked it, very much.
This is Gator’s ride after he retired – no more White Lightning… I would drive the wheels off this one.

Nice looking Mark! I currently own a 90 LSC 90k all still stock and the air ride still works. Mine is light Christal blue has the 89 turbine wheels, built in 9/89 originally sold in Hawaii I even have the salesman’s business card.
