540 V8 “Super Nova”: 1967 Chevrolet Chevy II

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1967 Chevy II is far removed from the day it left the Willow Run assembly line. The VIN decodes this 2-door sedan as having been the base 100 model with an inline-6 inch. But today, it looks to be race-ready with a 540 cubic inch “big block” V8 and an assortment of track add-ons like a roll cage, Dana 60 rear end, and racing slicks. It looks as though no expense may have been spared to put this hot rod together, turning it into something of a “Super Nova”!

The 1967 model year saw a downturn in Chevy II/Nova sales at just over 106,000 units. Perhaps that decline was due to the Camaro “pony car” being introduced and having a stellar first year at more than 221,000 copies. Whatever the reason, the compact was redesigned in 1968 and buyer interest began to soar once again. We don’t know the history of this car or whether it’s seen any action at the drag strip, but it certainly looks more than willing and able.

A 540 V8 sits under the hood, and we wonder if it puts out more than one horsepower per cubic inch. It’s paired with a PowerGlide 2-speed automatic transmission and a B&M Bandit shifter. The ignition was supplied by MSD and the Chevy has a full complement of racing gauges. The interior looks inviting for a would-be racer, with Kirkey racing seats in front of the roll cage,

This vehicle hails from Las Vegas, Nevada, and comes with a title from that state. Besides being offered here on Barn Finds Classifieds at $10,250, the car is also listed here on BidFastAndLast where the information provided is pretty much the same. If you’ve been shopping for a car like this, how does a souped-up Chevy II sound to you?

Somehow I don’t think that the seller is letting this car go for $10,250, which is the price that it is listed on BarnFinds classifieds. The engine alone is worth more than that. This car is being auctioned off, probably with a hefty reserve.

You want to go fast, stop right here. I read, a similarly equipped Nova with a 540 and Powerglide ( yeah, who’s stupid now, eh?) could turn low 11s at 119 mph. Someone sunk a chunk of money on this they will clearly never get back, but I bet the fun this car produced was well worth it.

I really doubt that 10250.00 is the asking price unless the pan has a window in it. Like Tony said a 540 with just mid level parts is worth more than that! As a roller it would bring close to that unless the other side has been against the wall.

The current bid is $10,250. No mention of a reserve. Looking through all the pictures it is evident you will need 4 new tires as the sidewalls are cracked. It does have some body damage as well but nothing extreme. I looked on the BidFastandLast link.

I agree that $10,250 is no way the asking price for this litter rocket ship. They have probably 3 times that in part’s alone.

    That is NOT a 67 body. It’s pre 1966.

      What exactly is a “pre 1966”? A ’65?

Price now is up to 15,500 still had to believe. Has open headers no exhaust.
Looks like oil leak under rear end.
It is a 1966 body, front grill and rear tail lights say so. Not a 65′

I was being a bit of a joker when I said ’65, I was just curious as to what a “pre ’66” was. As the author of the article seems pretty car smart and has decoded VIN, one would think that he would have noticed the build date. Personally, I don’t know enough about the small difference’s between 66 & the 67 to say either way.

67 post was 2 not nova. All changed in 68. I had one, but don’t recall or see difference with 66. Not even close to 65. Hope BOB will enlighten us!!

Pretty sad when the description calls the rear a Dana 60 when it clearly is a Chevy 12 bolt rear, it makes you wonder about the knowledge of the seller. 4 rim screws on the slicks on this car? 6 or 8 is usually the MINIMUM per wheel…

The “super Nova” description in the article heading was a play on words. The article clearly stated that it is a model 100 2 door sedan Chevy 2.
