It seems like low-mileage, nice, original, 5th-generation Ford pickups are coming out of the woodwork like crazy lately. We’ve featured quite a few of these nice survivors here on Barn Finds recently and they keep popping up for sale. This one is a 56K original mile F-250 from 1971 and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $4,550. Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, unfortunately, there isn’t a ton of information in the ad, but the pictures speak for themselves. This one is super-clean and you can tell it hasn’t been abused or worked hard. Have a look and see what you think.
You can see there’s a fairly large patch on what appears to be the factory seat cover. Other than that, the interior looks like it is in great condition. In fact, the door panels and headliner look really nice. Even if taken care of, the headliner is just thin cardboard and usually buckles and crumbles over the years. While these trucks only have a five-digit odometer, the claim of 56,554.9 original miles seems highly reasonable given the original condition of the truck.
The ad says the truck runs and drives well, but there aren’t any specifics on the condition of the 360 V8. It appears to be in good condition on the outside and you can tell there have been some routine items replaced. The top radiator hose appears new along with possibly the master cylinder? You can see the truck features power steering and brakes, which is a nice feature to have on these trucks.
The ad says the truck is a Camper Special as indicated from the hood emblem, but you can see the “Sport Custom” emblems on the bedsides as well. I’m not sure if this year of Ford had Camper Special and Sport Custom trim packages that were available together? If you know, leave us a comment. You can obviously see the truck has tie-downs on the bed, so it would handle a camper well. This truck is a real F-250 from the VIN indicated in the ad of F25YLK31742. F25 = F-250 2wd, Y = 360 V8, L = Michigan, K31742 = October 1970. Overall, this is a nice old truck that will probably serve the new owner with years of enjoyment!
Grew up on granddads farm driving his 68 f100 240 ? 6 with 3 on the tree. . The movie mr majestic had been out and we tried our best to out do (4brothers) each other in driving skills . Great times and one awesome truck! Enjoy them popping up
Now we’re talkin’
Again, the great folks of Ohio not corrupted by the hype. Much more in line for what you’d expect. Some of the best trucks made. I wouldn’t wait too long, lest someone from Cal. scarfs up on it and triples the price.
Awesome looking truck. I’ve always loved the 1970-72 Ford F-Series truck. I hope whoever buys this truck enjoys it and takes care of it.
I am trying to remember the components of the Camper Special but I do remember this option was available on all the trim levels, Custom, Sport Custom, Ranger and Ranger XLT on a F-250 or 350 as a styleside or flareside pickup.
I believe the Camper Special included the sliding rear window, hd cooling, hd alternator, camper pre-wiring, long arm mirrors and maybe the extra frame mounted fuel tank.
The engine also had to
Not sure what happened to the time to edit.
The engine probably had to be either the 360 or 390 for all that extra weight and lower gearing needed.
Rear leafsprings were heavy duty on camper special, but any spring pack could be special ordered, my grandfathers 73 F100 was ordered with camper special rear suspension and 16″ wheels
I’d love this truck with a period correct slide in camper and a Honda CT70 mounted on the front bumper with those old hoop-wheel carriers.
When trucks were made to use and work. Well made. Only change I would do is replace the electronic distributor, add a relay between the switch and soloinoid . They were bad about catching the wires on fire.I found out the hard way. Other then that.Nice looking well made truck.I,d love to have it.Wished it was a standard.
To Montana Sanford – my personal term for it is the Bandwagon Effect. One or two vehicles pop up for sale and others that have the same type of vehicle decide that now is the time for them to list theirs. Grand Nationals and Cosworth Vegas and Anniversary Corvettes are prime examples. Sometimes sellers actually flood the market.
P.S. I too miss the ability to go back and edit my posts. Autocorrect screwed up the spelling of your last name and I can’t do a damn thing about it. I’m seeing more people mentioning that fact too because they don’t want to come off looking like uneducated bumpkin either. Please bring back the ability to go back and edit our post in that window of opportunity that we had.
Nice truck. This would be great to keep as is and use for its intended purpose- work. Don’t abuse it, and it would be great for light hauling, etc. Easy to maintain, too.
Sold my 1977 F150 XLT in 2015 for $3500. It went fast. Had a 400 w/air (not working), p.s./pb. in very good condition. Now I wish I could have held onto it for a bit longer. Owned Fords over the years. Never had a better truck.
I have a 1971 F250 4×4 camper special with the 360 also. Same color and had 71k miles on it when I bought it in 2001. I’m surprised the 2WD has power steering and brakes. The cracks in the steering wheel are the same as any I’ve ever seen, regardless of condition. Same hole in the seat. mine was kept in a barn by the original owner, brought out to sell by his son who drove it a bit but didn’t like the no-power-steering. Been my baby ever since. A daily driver, work horse, then garage Queen, now my daily driver again.
The Camper Special package can be had on any trim level (Custom, Sport Custom, Ranger, etc.) but cannot be had on the F-100 or F-150’s (though I’ve heard rumors of Camper Special packages on F-150’s but have never seen one in person). You could have the 360ci or 390ci with the Camper Special package, but in my experience, 95% of the Camper Specials had the 360ci.
I miss green, brown, and gold colored vehicles.
1971 Ford F 250 camper special sport custom was an option. My first truck was just thus. 360 cid borg 4 speed manual. Dual fuel tanks,
