6k Mile Beauty: 1990 Cadillac Brougham D’Elegance

This 1990 Cadillac Brougham D’Elegance has to be the nicest example I’ve ever personally seen for sale since they were new, and it’s listed here on eBay out of Sarasota, Florida. Even if you’re not a fan of them, I’m sure you can appreciate…

… the extremely low mileage and overall good condition. As our GM aficionados can tell you, the Brougham was a rename and eventual very minor facelift of the Fleetwood. From 1987 until 1992, the Brougham was Cadillac’s last hurrah of full-size, front-engine-rear-drive body-on-frame V8 luxo-barges. In 1990, if you bought one of the 34,000 made that year, you had a choice of 5.0 or 5.7-liter engine, and a host of other creature comforts, all of which were assembled in Arlington, Texas,

This car, in particular, has reportedly only traveled about 6,000 original miles and has just about every option available at the time. The seller says it well when they say: ” …it is loaded out with pretty much every factory option that was offered on the Brougham in 1990 including the oh so rare factory astroroof, wire wheels, 5.7 liter V8 engine, FE2 ride and handling package, towing package, auto dimming mirror, factory security alarm & locking fuel door, gold package, trumpet horn and pretty much everything else except for the factory CD player. All of these options are backed up by the factory RPO sticker in the trunk, window sticker and factory build sheet which is still perfectly intact with the car located under the rear seat.” and also: “My Brougham comes with its original gold keys, gold key delivery cassette tape, sales brochure, floor mats, trunk mat, owners manuals, factory build sheet (still under the rear seat) and original window sticker. Even the factory alarm stickers are still unblemished and on the car. Basically, it is like buying a brand new 1990 Brougham d’elegance only that it is 29 years later…”

The now-famous Doug Demuro just recently wrote a column about, did a test drive, and did his “Doug Score” on a 1989, but that one is not nearly as nice as this one. In case you hadn’t guessed by now, I’m a big fan and would rather enjoy having one like it someday. If you’ve read this article this far, what do you think of this one? Is it worth the asking price?

Rebuilt title. The money this guy wants is not realistic with a marked title. He explains it well enough but even if his story is true, the title is still marked. Very pretty car though.
My now deceased boss from the hearse dealership had one similar to this. He owned a livery service back when he bought his brand new. It was dark gray with burgundy leather & pinstripes. It too had the wire rims & was loaded, but he had the 5.0 engine. The second day he owned the car he had the contract to pick up a famous comedian from the airport & cheauffer him around. My boss used this newly purchased sedan. First thing this comedian did after he sat down was light a cigar lol. Walter, my boss, was irate but he decided he couldn’t say much to the guy. He told me the story the day he sold me the car. I wish I had kept it. Walter is now in the grave, and we all know where cigar smoking Bill Cosby is lol.

LOL! Great story Stevieg. It’s stuff like that, that makes this an entertaining site.

Had that been me, and Cosby lit a two-bit cigar in MY new Brougham? I’d lock `em up, open the door, and toss him out. I’m not kidding. I was a livery driver for 3 years with new Fleetwoods, Town Cars, etc. and smoking was NEVER allowed, no matter who you are. (Cosby was a known swine when it comes to tipping, dealing with waiters, chauffers, and other “hired help”. No class or finesse whatsoever…)

Will, back in the day I looked at a mint 1985 Buick Collector’s Edition at a local Buick dealership, mint in every respect, passing all my tests…went home that night but decided to purchase the next day..went to test drive one more time, but evidently a salesman had taken it home for the night, smoking a few cigarettes that left butts in the virgin ashtray and a small burn hole in the velour..I was infuriated and left the dealership without purchasing the car…

Surprised because when he performed at USC he demanded to driven in a Gray Town Car and would refuse a Cadillac if one showed up to pick him up.

Maybe he had a problem with some chauffeur/owner driving a Cadillac Brougham D’Elegance years ago, and it turned him off on Cadillacs. :-) :-)

How do you take a modern classic & remove every ounce of class?

Trowel on as much plastic googahs & fake chrome as humanly possible. Then give it what can only be described as the single most ridiculous & un-user-friendly front seatbelt system the planet has ever known.

Cadillacs have never been coveted for their understated presence. But this overwrought monstrosity could only have been the brainchild of corporate bigwigs who were sadly out of touch with reality – much less their target market.

Mike, I was thinking about you when I saw the video on the news this morning. Glad to hear that you survived okay. I’d hate to think of your Vette being submerged.

Thanks Dennis! I am lucky, the garage is farther away from the river than the house. You can always rebuild a house! Take care stud, I hope all is well with you. Keep up the good comments, Mike.

If memory serves, the towing package was required to get the 5.7L engine. It was Cadillac’s way to sneak the bigger engine and its gas-guzzler tax past GM management.

wasn’t this the year of caddy that the people who bought them raised hell with gm when some fool at a dealership told a customer they had a chev engine in their car! I remember up here in ontario canada 2 winters and the rear bumpers were falling off I saw one with a hardwood plank for a rear bumper cute!

Dont recall Caddy but for Oldsmobile it was a few years earlier. A good friend bought a new Cutlass
( ’77 ?) that came thru with an Olds 350 , his wife was pleased, he wasn’t.

Hey Leiniedude, my trip was put off for a week. My Mom wants to go with but she is in Morocco until Thursday. Wow, you folks are flooded up there! It’s pretty dry here, and we aren’t even that far apart (assuming you are in the Chippewa valley area).

RE: LAST OF FULL SIZE , REAR DRIVE V8 LUXO BARGES, I had a girl friend that had a ’94 FLEETWOOD that was nothing but luxurious,,,, & pretty darn snappy with the 5.7 V8, the same motor that powered the SS Impalas etc. It was an awesome car.

Celebrated my Mother’s birthday today. She was born just south of Dublin. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day properly you don’t use beer, you use whiskey 🥃. Try this one next time.

Thanks gang, glad I am not alone. Pat, I will have to search that out. All we have here is Jameson and Bushmills. I am happy sipping either. Hey Stevieg, ya, I am 30 miles south of the Madcity on the Sugar River. Jeez, Morocco. How cool!

Yes Doug DeMuro did a review and I left a lot of comments about his review. He needs to stick to newer cars that he knows a little about.

He left off a few of the quirks and features that I pointed out in the comments.

I always liked this redesign of the front end, to me it looked much better than my almost completely loaded 78 Fleetwood Brougham (I didn’t have the F.I. 425 or 2 tone paint – otherwise you name it, it had it!) that I owned at 19 (84-86). It used to kill me to see these in demo derbies around here.

I don’t know. Take a look at the driver seat and the steering wheel. Does that look like 6K miles? As far as the story, file under fiction.

What is a MARKED title ?

  17. Avatar photo moosie

MARKED , BRANDED , TOTALED, Titled Vehicle sustained damage that exceeds worth, written off by insurance company, often times its difficult to register a vehicle with that. But sometimes not. Hard to understand an insurance company doing that for the price of 4 spoke wheels & tires ? But that’s insurance companies for ya.

You can not go to Cadillac and get anything even close to this car. New miniCaddy’s front drive 4 cylinder, no frame.etc. cannot ride like one of these. I always wanted one and would gladly tradew my 02 deVille with the grenade Northstar. The only good thing about the 02 is it still has a full front seat not like the cramped new ones.

1-mac, you’re reading my mind, except my driver is an 03 deVille. I had an 81 Coupe a long time ago. I put 275K miles on it and it was still running great when I sold it. What a great comfortable ride.

Who is purchasing today new Cadillac – made on base of Cadillac Cimmaron – just expensive garbage with long list of recalls already from asssmbly line. You can’t compare luxury in old cadillacs Oldsmobiles with new interior with no room

Your post is barely legible and isn’t even a coherent statement so I’m not going to waste anytime with a real reply.

I know its awful, you can buy a 400 plus hp AWD all wheel steering super sedan that drives itself from Cadillac today, but its sad you can buy a throwback to 1978…….right.

Nice looking car if you are into driving supremely underpowered boat on land. These should have never been produced with anything less than a “350” motor. I was shocked once when I found a 81or 82 coup d vile with a V-6 motor from the factory!
