7 Projects: C3 and C4 Chevrolet Corvettes

Who doesn’t love America’s Sports Car, the Corvette, which has been a Chevrolet staple since 1953? And if you’re a fan of the “C3” ‘Vette (third generation, 1968 to 1982), this opportunity might be for you – if you like projects and parts. The seller has six C3s plus a C4 split in two locations, offered here on eBay strictly as a package deal for $33,000. Five are in Reisterstown, Maryland, and the others are in Bunker Hill, West Virginia. Gathering them all up and transporting them to your domicile will be an exercise in itself. Thanks, Mitchell G., for yet another crazy tip.

As the story goes, the seller found all these ‘Vettes at estate sales, perhaps one at a time. Some of the Chevies have titles while some do not. The only runner in the bunch seems to be the C4, a 1987 edition finished in black. With just 35,000 miles, it has a new interior (why?), wheels, tires, and brakes. But you’ll have to sort out a finicky fuel pump.

The other six Corvettes are all from 1971, 1972, or 1973. One of the ‘71s has bronze paint and is a 454 V8 car from the factory.  Another is maroon with a 350 engine and a 4-speed transmission (could be an M22). The third is red in color with a 4-speed and a 502 (?) V8. Rounding out the 1971s is an example wearing blue paint and a 350 V8, considered a “work-in-progress”. Separate from the body is its full chassis.

Wrapping up the collection is a 1972 Stingray in primer brown with a 350 powerplant (also a 4-speed). The other is a 1973 model, which is said to be a completely stock car and has an automatic transmission, just to be different. In addition to all of this, an ample amount of spare parts are being thrown in. All of this goes to one buyer, so don’t ask him or her to break it up. This deal works out to less than $4,800 per car.

I LOVE the steering column supported by the wooden plank. This would make for some seriously interesting yard driving!

Seven Corvettes, 6 of which are junkyard refugees, only 3 of which have titles for a measly $33,000, what could go wrong.

If you want to get paid, do the work.

The other cars he currently has listed are real winners too.

And the “best” one (1987) has an apparently fake VIN tag….. The VIN does decode to an ’87, but does it belong to that car? The tag itself looks home-made, and is attached with wrong rivets. Heat score!

Looks like a Hot Sale to me.

There is only one Vette in the bunch worth any money in my book, the 454. Even then the amount of work needed to get a return on your money is barely there considering what C3s are bringing these days.

To answer your question at the beginning… Me I don’t love them..to be fair I’ve never driven one or even ridden in one for that matter I have only been around them at a car show and listening to other car guys talking about getting the engine from a wrecked one to put in a different toy.

Toss in another $10k+ for transporting. Are we upside down yet?

These are parts cars. Take whatever serious offer you get. Someone on your property, with trailers ready to load. And, somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,000 cash. Have bills of sale prepared, before hand…don’t waste the buyer’s time.

I wonder how many “estate sales” the seller had to visit in order to accumulate this many junked out Corvettes.
