The Z28 began as the Chevy Camaro model slated for SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Trans Am Division competition. After the engine size increased from 302 to 350 cubic inches, the Z28 became a larger part of the Camaro arsenal. This 1977 looks like new and comes with a lot of documentation that may or may not help sort out the odometer reading of 7,352 miles. Located in Carver, Massachusetts, this Chevy is offered by a dealer here on eBay, where the current bid is $17,600 (reserve unmet) with the buy it now price of $23,900.

If you wanted a new Z28 Camaro in 1975 or 1976, you were out of luck. For some reason, they were excluded for those two years, perhaps due to the shrinking muscle car market and the uncertainty of oil prices (sound familiar?). But the car returned in 1977 and sold more than 14,000 units (per seller-provided data). A 350 V8 was standard Z28 fare, producing 185 hp SAE net. Z28s came with a Turbo-Hydramatic transmission, and this car has a long list of options to its credit.

The color of this automobile looks like Persimmon to me, but the actual hue is Code 78 Orange, flanked by a Buckskin bucket seat interior. The body, paint, and interior all look great, although the carpeting may be slightly faded over the rear hump. This Camaro has the F41 Special Performance Suspension, which should make for a more spirited ride when you’re working those curves on the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina/Tennessee.

It looks as though the A/C compressor has been replaced. And the spoke steel wheels are perfect for the Chevy. The tires are newer, so they’re one less thing to have to consider replacing after you make the purchase. With not one but two build sheets, the Camaro was sold new by a Chevy dealer in Arkansas and eventually made its way to New England. Is this a ride that would get you to lay down nearly 24 large for the privilege to own?

Always wanted one of these 1977 Zs.
With the right options, they were quite fun to drive. A red w/red, white w/red or silver w/red.
I went to the dealer in 75 to order a 76 Z28 and was told not available anymore, I was bummed but ended up ordering a Ralle sport, I was pretty happy with that
Not a Firebird fan?
Also needs 3 pedals….
Was row-your-own-gears available that year with that engine?
Yes 350ci w/ Borg Warner 4 speed 3:73 rear
They also state “true mileage unknown” in their add.
Had one when I graduated high school. Great cars. One part that’s hard to source is the air cleaner snorkel hose. I think the orange met paint on a Z is kinda rare.
Very pretty Z28. Don’t remember seeing that color before. The “mileage unknown” is a bit disconcerting… assuming the odometer is broken. A good close up examination ought to determine if it’s high mileage or not.
Get rid of the emblem on the air cleaner. Nice Clean Camaro here . Would like to see documentation on miles. To bad it does not have the third pedal.
The ac top is original.
no mention of papers to document the miles
I’ve always liked these. If it were closer, might have checked it out.
In 78 I worked a a Mobil Service station pumping gas. An older mechanic “Don” bought one of these brand new with a four speed, I had a clapped out 351W auto Mach 1 and we raced all the time, off the line he’d pull me out of the hole every time, by time he got into 2 or 3 gear the mighty Mustang would catch up and pass, every time! Good days indeed!
Yes, a friend in high school had one with a 4 spd. He beat the snot out of that thing!
The odometer has likely rolled over. Still not bad mileage.
185hp sounds a bit optimistic for this year. I think my ’79 was around like 170 stock. I always liked when they brought back the functional hood scoop for the ’80 and ’81 years. Nice car though.
I have a bonus question; why did cars like these typically have a lower rear end ring gear if they were auto compared to manual trans? I heard they did this in the ’70s and ’80s, but why would it matter?
The seller just clarified it has 107,000 miles
Odd the gap between the front bumper & upper valance – but i think all ’77s are like that. Jack up the bumper slightly & check for loose mounting nuts just to be sure
I have the black on black 77.5 z28 / 4 speed stock . Bought in 1989. It just sits in my shop, right behind my 67 pro street camaro. Dust collectors.
