While it’s dusty and needs some repairs to the back seat, this 1969 Buick Riviera looks like an awesome find! It’s been parked for a couple of decades in a garage and is in solid shape as a result. Reader John O’s father amassed a small collection of classics, including two Rivieras, you can check out his red ’69 Riviera here. They are liquidating his collection and this beautiful Buick needs to go! You can find it in Fort Wayne, Indiana and you can bid on it below.
From John – There are two 1969 Buick Rivieras available. One is black and the other is red. This black Riviera was stored indoors and kept dry. Part of the interior in the back seat has come loose from the frame and will need some attention but is otherwise intact (photos of the seat below). It comes with the keys and has a clean title.
It hasn’t been started in a number of years, but I don’t see any reason why this Riviera wouldn’t run again. The engine bay looks fairly clean, other than some overspray from when someone painted the valve covers. It appears to be the 430 cui V8 which should offer plenty of power for smokey burnouts! (John confirmed that this is the 430 cui V8 with the 4 barrel carb and that it turns over by hand)
It’s hard to tell for sure with so much dust, but it looks like this one would clean up extremely well. You can tell that the paint is shiny still and the trim all looks to be in good shape. I don’t see any signs of body damage or rust. Honestly, this one looks like it could be a fairly simple and fun project! With a little work, you could have a great driver. If you’d love to cruise in this Buick, be sure to bid.

Josh, ‘smokey front-wheel burnouts’? This would be difficult since the Riviera didn’t become front-wheel drive until 1979 if I remember correctly. You would be doing conventional rear wheel burnouts with this car.

“The frame will need some attention” Pictures of the area needing attention would be a big plus. Looks like a nice project though.

Easy mistake to make. Toronado and Eldorado were FWD and the Riviera RWD through 1978. From 1979 on, the three shared the same FWD platform until 1995, when the Riv got a radical coupe body on the same chassis as the Olds Aurora and Cadillac Seville.
The Riv passed on to the great personal luxury coupe heaven in the sky after 1999. The Aurora and Seville gasped on a few more years until 2003 and 2004 respectively, when they joined it in the graveyard, all victims of America’s switch to luxury SUVs.
May these vehicles, which surrounded up to 4 passengers and 2 sets of golf clubs in two and a half tons of metal, chrome, and leather RIP. We will never see anything like them again.
Yup, ’66 Riv, Toro and ’67 Eldo shared platform, despite Buick kept the RWD a few more years. Oldsmobile being GM’s technological spearhead was the first to introduce the FWD configuration.
GM wanted any childhood illnesses to be solved before introducing the new layout in the ’67 Eldo due to the less forgiving nature of Cadillac customers…
Complete interiors are available for these, but an upholstery shop could repair this one easy enough. These Buicks are great cars and should be given the respect they deserve. I love my 64, but it’s all the classic I can handle right now or I’d bid on this one. I hope it don’t go to a flipper, there’s more to life than profit. Love of the classic is right there at the top.

No, mine was painted this shade of blue by the guy I bought it from. It was originally code nn Coral Mist. It was painted in 1995 and is due to be painted again. If I can find a good paint shop here in Houston at a low dollar price it will wear its original color.
