Adventure Mobile: 1995 Chinook Concourse

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

These days, the prospect of living off the grid holds more appeal than ever. And while Mercedes makes a humdinger of an escape pod with its Sprinter R/V conversions, the price tag on those things is enough to make you wonder if you’re buying a used Maybach. This 1995 Chinook Concourse is a Class B R/V and a way more affordable alternative to the Sprinter with seemingly all the same luxuries and comfort features on the board. If you can live without a Benz badge, this Ford-based camper looks like a worthy companion for the open road. Find it  here on eBay where bidding has reached $15,200 with the reserve unmet.

I’ve wanted to convert my 1981 Toyota HiAce to a camper for years, but those plans are still taking shape (translation, not happening). The idea of combining a living space in a vehicle of manageable proportions is super appealing, especially since most pilots of full-size R/Vs seemingly have little appreciation for how much space that occupy on local roadways. These campers with far tidier proportions make infinitely more sense to me, but not only for the size factor: they use less fuel; way easier to park; can be parked in most normal-sized driveways; and of course, cost far less to buy and operate.

This Chinook conversion has also clearly been loved, as the interior remains in exceptional condition. Sure, it’s straight out of the early 90s when green carpeting was still a thing and fake wood paneling was everywhere. Off to the left, the green couch can unfold into a bed that can comfortably sleep one, or perhaps two kiddos. The bench across the way could also accommodate some slightly uncomfortable slumber, and the seller mentions that some of the tables and benches can also convert into a bed. Another option is the front passenger seat, which can swivel around and recline.

While I get it that there’s not nearly as much room in one of these when compared to a traditional R/V, this are clearly not intended for people carting around multiple generations of family members. For some empty nesters, or younger couples delaying real life for a few years, these make an awful lot of sense if you’ve got a desire to explore other areas of the country without relying on air travel. The seller notes it runs and drives well, and comes with numerous features including propane heat; a fridge, stove, microwave, and kitchen sink; a quiet on-board Onan generator; bathroom and shower facilities; and even an awning. Where will bidding go for this one?

Nice unit. Just shows, people that had this, know nothing about what powers it, and all the pictures are of the motorhome part, but I read, this probably has the tried and true gas 460 V8. Could deliver maybe 10mpg, downwind, but a classier ride for this money, I doubt you’ll find. If I became a gypsy, don’t laugh, the way the world is going, I just might, I’d love to have this.

why is it when you have a 460 engine hauling heavy loads 3-4 ton it gets 10 mpg but put the same engine behind a 1 ton car it gets 5
      mpg. whats up with that

I bought a retired ambulance for 3k with the 7.3 diesel for making a camper out of. Downwind I’m hoping for 20 mpg after some slight mods and tuning. It’s only gonna be 9′ high with solar on the roof. Wish me luck, I’m going to need it for this project.

nada says $62,995 new 4000 retail. 108,000 miles thats like 250,000 for a car. these rv’s are like boats for every hour of use requires 2 hours of maintenance. if it was stored in a temp contriolled garage its probably worth the bidding price.rv’s are sneaky when it comes to rain leakage. the first thing to do is have the roof examined closely. if it was used for any length of time outdoors you will have leaks somewhere. some of these rv’s are like hot potatoes. no one wants to get stuck owning the darn thing. an experienced rv owner is required for these rv’s. its certainly better than eddies on christmas vacation. but id check to make sure snott hasnt been living in it. that crazy rotweiller

Average Retail Value ($4000) — An average retail vehicle should be clean and without glaring defects. Tires and glass should be in good condition. The paint should match and have a good finish. The interior should have wear in relation to the age of the vehicle. Carpet and seat upholstery should be clean, and all power options should work. The mileage should be within the acceptable range for the model year.

An Average Retail vehicle on a dealer lot may include a limited warranty or guarantee, and possibly a current safety and/or emission inspection (where applicable).

Note: Vehicles/Vessels in exceptional condition can be worth a significantly higher value than the Average Retail Price shown.

Chinooks are in class by themselves. One pc body is tight and leak free. They sell quick for good prices regardless of what blue book or any other book says. No engine mentioned but the 460 is the preferred engine for me. The V10 was a dud. I have a 1990 chinook/ford and after owning many other RVs this chinook is my final RV. Don’t knock the cult following that’s a good thing.

Can’t imagine getting any camper that isn’t self-contained. Last thing I’d want to do is traipse outside in the middle of the night to answer nature’s call.

traipsing outside in the middle of no where in the dark is always an expedition especially if its raining. at least i know at the top of the steps is the bathroom at home . x 5 times a night…id be lucky to make it out the door to the camper… sad isnt it…call of the wild by JACK LONDON was a good book. closest i come to outside.

I’m a camper. But, a fair weather camper. And no more tents for me. At least bring a port-a-potty.
