Just because a car doesn’t make a top-ten list of the world’s most desirable classics doesn’t mean you should ignore or dismiss it. Take this 1991 Buick LeSabre Limited as a prime example. It presents exceptionally well for a survivor of this vintage, and the interior is loaded with creature comforts, guaranteed to make life on the road very pleasant. These cars offer excellent interior space and surprisingly good fuel economy, so the seller’s price might make it an affordable, practical daily driver for some. The LeSabre remained an integral part of Buick’s model range from its 1959 launch until the final cars rolled off the line in 2005. Our featured LeSabre Limited is part of the Sixth Generation production run, leaving the showroom floor in 1991. Finished in Code 40 White, the wire wheel covers and chrome accents give the Buick a subtle, classy look. The paint has a warm shine, and any cosmetic shortcomings are minor and almost irrelevant. I can’t spot any signs of rust, and the trim and glass are excellent. From an appearance perspective, this LeSabre is a winner.
Some paint and trim combinations can be uninspiring, while others can’t help but make a positive impression. Teaming White paint with Blue trim is an undoubted winner, as found in this Buick. The cloth on the driver’s seat outer edge shows slight wear, but there’s no danger that it is about to develop holes. The remaining upholstered surfaces are extremely tidy, although the carpet looks a little tired. It might improve with a deep clean, but some inexpensive mats would hide its worst problems. The dash is excellent, and the pad is crack-free. Okay, is the interior luxurious? It features climate-controlled air conditioning, power windows, power locks, six-way power front seats, power mirrors, cruise control, a rear defogger, a tilt wheel, and an oh-so-1990s stereo comprising an AM/FM radio and an auto-reversing cassette player. It might be relatively conservative by modern standards, but it should still be pretty comfortable.
This Buick is powered by an engine with international interest. The company’s 3.8-liter V6 found its way overseas, serving as the entry-level engine for Holden’s VN Commodore Down Under. There, it was in rear-wheel-drive form, but this Buick’s V6 motor sends 165hp and 210 ft/lbs of torque to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Outright performance isn’t its strength, but the motor easily exceeds 20mpg in all circumstances, making it surprisingly efficient. It is also robust and will clock over 200,000 miles without problems if treated respectfully and serviced appropriately. This LeSabre appears to tick those boxes, and with only 94,600 miles on the clock, it should provide years of reliable motoring.
I know some readers will ask why we’re featuring this 1991 Buick LeSabre Limited at Barn Finds, arguing it isn’t a genuine classic. However, this Buick has thirty-five years of active service under its belt and still presents nicely as an unmolested survivor. Cast your mind back to your recent road trips, and try to remember the last ’91 LeSabre you spotted, and whether it was as sweet as this one. The reality is that many of these cars were driven into the ground in the early 2000s, making their final journey to the scrapyard years ago. No, it won’t make a top-ten list, and it will never be a mega-bucks classic. It is a car that has defied the odds, doing so with grace and dignity. That is why it deserves its space on the site.
Why are you featuring this? I’ll tell you, Adam, after many repeated attempts to feature plausible finds, the site actually seems to be heading that way. Cars today, as evidenced by the increased interest( Jesse), and not to repeat what I said on the Dodge 4 door post, THIS is what people want/need today. A simple, decent car that the only electronic gee-gaws are the seat belt buzzer. Great, dependable cars,,,now,,,there is a fly in the ointment, however. Okay, you say you want to beat the high cost of repairing those newer cars, not an ironclad rule here, as say you get these older cars for a couple grand, if something major DOES go, here you go sticking thousands into a car that isn’t worth that. What to do? An Eshelman or King Midget about the last resort there. Wonderful find, don’t dawdle on these “cheapies”, they go fast.
Probably too expensive, sure, it’s nice, but $6,999 is not inexpensive for a car like this. This has cycled through eBay at this dealers price at least once without selling. He has well over 100 cars listed and over 100 competed listings without a single sale within the last 90 days. Probably half the asking price is more realistic.
