Almost One Owner! 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

I sometimes wonder if the powers that be at Chevrolet had any idea what a large and lasting impact the Camaro would have on the pony car market when it was introduced as a 1967 model.  The Mustang had already grown into a huge success before the GM F-Bodies went into production, but that didn’t stop eager buyers from driving home in a Firebird or Camaro in the latter part of the sixties.  As time passes, fewer and fewer examples have a history that can be traced back to when the car was new, and very few can still be purchased from the original owner.  This mostly original 1967 Camaro here on Facebook Marketplace was reportedly purchased from the first owner not long ago, and it’s now looking to change hands once again.  This one’s in Louisville, Kentucky, with the seller hoping to earn $23,000 from the sale.

We’d like to thank reader Zappenduster for finding this first-year Camaro and sending us the tip here!  Before it headed east to the Bluegrass State, this one’s reported to have spent many years residing in California, and though a few small areas of rust are visible here and there, the amount and severity of corrosion appear minimal.  The seller says around 75% of the paint is original, and while there’s fading and a few imperfections, I sort of appreciate the aged look this one displays.  One section of bare body filler is visible on the passenger-side quarter panel, so it might be difficult for the next owner to blend if they try to touch it up.

Although V8 power was available in the Camaro from its inception, this one’s got an inline-6 and is paired with an automatic transmission.  The seller indicates that the factory smog equipment is all there and hooked up, which suggests how much originality is still present here.  This one is stated to run and stop, but it’s described as not roadworthy enough to drive home, so the mechanical needs might be a subject worth addressing before committing to paying the full asking price.

At nearly 60, the interior has held up pretty well overall, though it’s nowhere near perfect.  The driver’s bucket and rear seat will need to be recovered, and installing a new headliner and dash pad will also be on your to-do list.  Hopefully, many of the repairs required here will be cosmetic in nature, and I really hope the 6-banger stays put.  How do you envision moving forward with this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro?

Nice to see ones like this and it illustrates that, yes, they’re still out there.

It’s really nice to see a picture of the car, in its garage with its original owner. I am just guessing here, but seeing his hat, he probably came home from Vietnam and bought this Camaro, and then kept it all these years. It must not have been easy for him to part with it. But glad he did when he was able. If this were mine, the 250 Straight Six and Powerglide would stay right there, I’d be inclined to restore the interior and exterior as stock as possible. Great find here, the type of find that many of us would really want

A nice story seeing it sold from the first owner from 1967 I was 7 years old when this was new. Not sure if I am missing something but $23,000 seems like a lot of money for the condition of the car.

I doubt that the new owner even paid him the original sale price of the car. $23,000 is a pretty steep price for the way this one sits.
