Ambitious Project: 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

General Motors introduced a third tier of automobiles in 1964, the intermediate. In Chevrolet’s case, it was the mid-size Chevelle that was sandwiched between the compacts Chevy II and Corvair and the full-size Impala, et al. It would quickly become popular and account for nearly a half-million sales on many occasions in the 1960s and 1970s. The seller’s car is from 1969 as part of the Chevelle’s second generation and it will need tons of work (if you opt for a restoration). Located in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, the rough project is available here on eBay. The opening bid is $4,000, but there have yet to be any takers.

From the VIN provided, this automobile is a Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe that left the factory with a V8 engine (a 350 cubic inch motor resides under the hood, original or otherwise). The seller is optimistic in the description of the vehicle, written with a marketing spin. For example, this Chevy is a “classic piece of Americana,” and the vehicle has been “well-maintained” and is a ‘piece of history.” The photos tell another story, one of a rusted and possibly incomplete car whose original color is hard to identify because so many flavors are onboard.

The indicated mileage is 136,000 and its current owner may have had it for 5 or 20 years (depending on the sentence) and there is no title, only a bill of sale. Besides the non-running 350 engine, an automatic transmission is in place along with a 10-bolt rear end. The car was intended to be a restoration project, but the owner passed away and his widow has put it up for sale.

We’re told the frame is solid, so perhaps someone will want to bring this Chevy back to life. Part of the resuscitation could be a transformation into a Super Sport clone or restomod. Because if you’re going to put a bundle of money into fixing this car up, why not attempt to make it better than it was when new?

Was a 307 powerglide car with A/C. It’s a RUFF one maybe a parts car. I don’t see a well cared for car here just parts for maybe less than half there price.

That ad has to be tongue-in-cheek. The tin worm “maintained” this car very well.

There is honestly not $500 worth of anything here. I get it that everyone that has, or finds a rusted-out carcass thinks that they have hit the motherlode, but sometimes I’m afraid those folks are delusional.

That’s worse than what we used to call a “parts car”
