Before performance SUVs needed twin turbos and a screen full of drive modes, Chevrolet took a more direct approach: install a Corvette-derived V8 in its midsize family hauler, tighten up the suspension, and add an SS badge. This 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS comes from the model’s first year and has reportedly been with its second owner since 2008. It shows 55,500 miles and appears largely stock, combining room for five with muscle car power. Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, it is offered here on Barn Finds Auctions with a clean title.
Chevrolet describes the TrailBlazer SS as its first Super Sport SUV, and the factory paperwork supplied with this example shows that the transformation went well beyond appearance. The $5,195 B4U package added a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 rated at 395 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, a heavy-duty four-speed automatic, full-time performance all-wheel drive, a 9.5-inch limited-slip rear axle with 4.10 gears, a road-course-tuned suspension, and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. That recipe gave Chevrolet a genuinely quick SUV without sacrificing the TrailBlazer’s basic usefulness.
The seller says he bought this SS in 2008 with about 3,000 miles. The original owner reportedly sold it for reasons unrelated to the vehicle, and the seller has kept it under a carport or in a garage throughout his ownership. Since 2024, it has been driven only a few miles every few weeks. The submitted door-label and factory-invoice photos show the correct VIN, while the invoice lists the original colors as Black over Ebony and a total price of $38,310 when new.
Black paint suits the understated nature of this SUV, especially with its monochromatic SS fascias, mesh grille inserts, red badging, and large polished wheels. The body looks straight in the supplied photos, and the paint retains a nice shine. However, it is not presented as a flawless preservation piece. The close-ups show stone chips and scuffs on the lower front bumper, some finish wear and marks on the wheels and center caps, and minor age-related wear elsewhere. The current Bridgestone tires show substantial tread in the photos.
The interior is remarkably conventional and looks to be quite comfortable for something with nearly 400 horsepower, which is part of this SUV’s charm. SS-embroidered leather-and-suede front seats are heated and power-adjustable, while the driver’s seat and mirrors have memory settings. The original equipment also includes power-adjustable pedals, dual-zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, a power sunroof, a Bose sound system with a six-disc changer and XM capability, steering-wheel controls, and rear audio and climate controls. The cargo area remains practical, complete with a reversible mat, full-size spare, and onboard air-inflator connection. The upholstery looks good, though the steering wheel and driver’s carpet show the mild wear expected from use.
Under the hood, the LS2 appears stock, including the molded engine cover and intake assembly. The engine compartment is complete and reasonably tidy, though not freshly detailed. The seller describes the TrailBlazer as ready to drive home and says its acceleration remains impressive, while the tuned suspension and rear air-leveling system make it far more composed in corners than its upright shape suggests. No recent service list or driving videos were included, so prospective bidders should ask about maintenance history and confirm the operation of the automatic transmission, all-wheel-drive system, rear air suspension, air conditioning, and other accessories.
This TrailBlazer SS sits in an interesting middle ground: new enough to use every day, old enough to feel refreshingly simple, and uncommon enough that clean, stock examples are attracting enthusiast attention. Its long ownership and factory paperwork definitely add appeal. With some minor cosmetic work, it could be an exceptional collector’s piece, or you could drive it as-is and have fun with it. Bought the duplicate of this one with the wife new. LT package has immeasurably better seat support BTW, with the rear seat HVAC controls were a big deal at the time(and still are IMHO). It was an amazing performance experience considering its size and weight. At a stoplight one afternoon a little ditzy twit in a late model BMW 3 series came to an all but screeching stop next to us, top down blowing out the speakers and screaming into the cell phone while gesticulating wildly. As the light changed we accelerated slowly but stayed ahead of the Bimmer up and a little (or maybe a little more) past the posted speed limit.
The shock and outrage on the face was worth the price of admission..
It was a sad day when we sold it; wife got a better job but an hours more drive and our black flash was 16MPG at best.
But boy did it get there quick and scoot thru the corners too. Miss that sweetheart.
Would buy this in a second given the right opportunity.
That’s just how I feel about the vehicle. But it’s time for someone else to have fun with it.
I know what you’re talking about as I bought the first one sold in Jacksonville back in 03, first year. It was blue with the same engine and AWD. I called it my 6 litre hemi eater! I wish I had just parked in my garage and kept it. Never seen them around any more.
Every time I take it out someone comes over and comments. Beautiful. What is it? Wow. Nice wheels. And so on. I love your “6 litre hemi eater” sentence.
The one I bought was the Silverado version. Yours came out 3 years later. I wish I had kept that truck. Traded it in for a Tahoe in 2007.
Chevy ONLY built the Trailblazer SS from 2006 – 2009.
I really like these Trailblazer SS’s. I definitely think they look better than the new ones out today. The new one looks too much like the Trax and Equinox. The Traverse is the only one that looks different. It looks like they took the SS emblems off the doors, and put smaller red ones up on the top of the fender s. At least I’ve never seen them before (aftermarket maybe?). They still look good, especially in red.
Was wondering about the SS emblems. Thought ours were white and on the door but saw these and thought maybe I’d just forgot.
Yes-the new ones are are similar to 2006-09 as the new Ranger is to the original, it’s just not there. But then GM seems to operate like that.

I agree John. Those red SS emblems look aggressive. And this SUV is aggressive with 0 – 60 and quarter mile times that are good for a much lighter and smaller vehicle. You could blow the doors off most everything on the road.
Yeah if look at pictures of the SS Trailblazer the SS emblems are white. That’s the way I’ve always seen them on the doors.
I personally like the red. It looks more aggressive. And this SUV is AGGRESSIVE. 0 – 60 in 5.8 seconds and the quarter mile in 14.2 seconds. And that’s when it was a quarter mile, not the 1,000 feet of today’s “quarter mile tracks.” It’s completely stock, and serviced perfectly – synthetic oil every 6,000 miles or 6 months, transfer case and both differentials had the oil changed at about 40,000.
A little detail I always liked on these: Look at photo #9, and notice the area between the right headlight and turn signal is different from the one on the left. The one on the right is for the cold air intake. So no big scoops or anything dumb to be flashy, just a nice little subtle thing for performance.

decent trucks better looking than what’s being offered today. those emblems are not correct they should be white and on the lower part of the door. with low miles these bring pretty good money. curious to see where this 1 lands.
My brother in law had the Saab equivalent of this vehicle – the 9-7X Aero. Very low production – 554 – but he had a heck of a time selling it.
Very few people knew what it was, so it was a limited market. His was not in the greatest shape, and most people just nit picked it to death and low-balled him. He eventually let it go for next to nothing. If I were in the right situation back then, I would have grabbed it in an instant.
I experienced the same thing as your brother, but on the opposite side of the table. I bought my Saab badged version pre-owned off a dealer lot. I wound up getting a pretty decent deal. After everything was said and done I commented to the salesman that I thought the negotiation went easy, he then mentioned that nobody knew what the 9-7x was so they gathered little interest. He went on to say I would have paid more had it had a Chevy or GMC badge. I bought mine simply to have something to tow with… I considered it a fake Saab… but it grew on me and I actually got to like it. However, with the way it died (see my other post here) I’d never get another…
Looks good. Will be following the auction, if it doesn’t get too pricy I may bid on it. Looks big enough to sleep in…which I’d have to do if I buy it. “She who must be obeyed” is already pissed that I bid on that damn road grader! I’ve already got a 2004 Blazer Xtreme, might have to get rid of it.
Clean and Average, applies even more sharply to the SS, where a low mileage, unmodified truck can sit at the top of the market while a high mileage the Trailblazer SS has moved into modern collectible territory, and pricing now reflects that shift. This beauty has only 55,500 miles after 20 years of life. 0-60 times of 5.8 seconds and the quarter mile in 14.2 seconds. That is impressive for a 4,500 pound vehicle.
Had the Saab badged version of this… 9-7x… Trollblazer. Mechanically identical. Beware frame and rear suspension rust (probably not as much of a problem in a New Mexico resident, but I’d look anyway). My frame cracked mid-ship under the drivers seat due to corrosion… same happened to the rear suspension trailing arms… they snapped due to rust… which gave me a few moments of excitement. Luckily I was just running around town and not towing my boat or any such thing…
In investigating things after they failed I found out that all the GMT360s were prone to this. The hydroformed frame pieces are notorious for rust failure.
This 2006 LT model had a total production run of 5,530. Not many. So, the next time you spot a mean-looking mid-size SUV branded with “SS” badging, wearing big wheels and armed with two intake openings sucking air through its front fascia, just remember it could be the Secret Service, but it’s probably a Trailblazer SS.
My neighbor has a white one for a daily driver. Don’t know the year. Ever since she’s been here the exhaust has been a little loud. Maybe that’s the way it should be. I don’t mind. It would be kind of fun to have them next to each other at a show & have 3 Dog Night sing Black & White.
Another fellow occasionally brings his red one to our little get together at Applebees every Monday night.
Jon: Yes the exhaust note is is beautiful if you like a big thundering V-8 that sounds old-school. Nothing like the sounds of today’s engines. It is music to my ears.
Do you have pictures of what the drivers seat looks like? Any wear or tears? In the picture it looks to be lighter in the center than the passenger seat, is that just the lighting making it look that way or is it different color?
Any accidents?
All the seats are in like new condition. No rips or tears. The lighting when I took the front seat photos made the passenger seat look darker in the center. They look almost identical, with the drivers seat showing just a tiny bit more wear. Never been in an accident.
The middle of both front seats is a dark grey suede leather while the outside of the seats is black leather.
This would be a blast to own and drive but gotta admit to being pretty hooked on Android Auto in the newer stuff. If it were within driving distance I’d be tempted but unfortunately as a Midwesterner I’ll hafta pass. I drove Blazers for years but the new ones are just another SUV although some of the RS models are pretty sharp! I don’t think I ever saw one of these but I like it!
Hey, Santa Fe is not that far away and a great place to enjoy for a few days. Plus there are lots of cool cars and trucks around. And you can get into a drag race pretty easily (but please don’t). It’s one very nice, very fast SUV in perfect shape.
