Blood Star Movie Car! 1977 Ford Mustang II Ghia

It’s arguable whether or not intangible factors, such as past ownership by a celebrity or if an auto has appeared in a film, add any additional value, and always interesting to hear what our readers have to say about this subject.  Even if the answer is no, pop culture ties are fun to bring up at car shows, and the next owner of this 1977 Ford Mustang II Ghia here on Craigslist will have an unusual story to share.  This one was used in the 2024 movie Blood Star, and while not yet as well-known as some of the classic car chase flicks, it’s a promising cat-and-mouse thriller set in a New Mexico desert that looks intense from the trailer.  The Mustang seems to have survived unscathed during the filming in Palmdale, California, and it’s now located in Los Angeles.  The asking price of $9,500 sounds in the ballpark, and we’d like to thank reader Rocco B.for spotting this cool pony car and sending us the tip!

Before this one attained movie star status, the Mustang is stated to have been owned by an enthusiast who cared for it meticulously, using it as his daily driver and also a weekend drag racer.  He’s said to have invested heavily in not only maintaining the car but also improving it mechanically, which is why it’s surprising that no photo is provided of the engine compartment.  The only information we get is that it’s a V8, which would be a 302 if still the factory component, and that the motor starts easily and runs well.  It’s also mentioned that the automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and that the 89,000 miles listed are believed to be original.

The Ghia was a step-up from the base Mustang II, and it included a few additional luxurious features as standard equipment, such as a vinyl roof and a more plush interior.  Blue was a popular color for this period, and the paint is stated to be original, with the seller aware that this one’s not a trailer queen.  However, the finish still appears decent overall, and the panels seem solid, with none showing any obvious corrosion.  Those wheels and tires are also mentioned as new.

Most of the interior is original, with an aftermarket steering wheel and a trio of gauges under the dash.  Other than some tearing on the driver’s seat, the rest of the upholstery has held up nicely, with the dash and instrument cluster also looking quite good for their age.  Blood Star was released in the U.K. last October, and it’s apparently set for release in the U.S. around Thanksgiving, so this sounds like a great time to score this 1977 Ford Mustang II Ghia.  Is this movie car one you’d be interested in pursuing?

Be interested to know those engine mods
That’s a light car another 100 horsepower would be sweet.

If it has been modified like you suggest, good luck getting a smog certificate so you can get it registered in California.

Weekend drag racer sounds like it was beat on. Too bad because that Ghia trim is classy. I would lose the wheels though still not worth the ask and no engine pictures.

I always thought that the actual V8 mustangs had 5 lug wheels?

Not with the Mustang II’s or Fox body’s, with the possible exception of the 1993 Cobra.

Beautiful car. I’ve always loved this generation Mustang. Was it perfect? Define perfect! The Mustang II was produced in the 1970s, after all. It was produced during one of the most challenging times in automotive history. But I would think with careful driving, careful maintenance, and careful storage when not driven, I’ll bet it could still be an awesome car. I’d drive it if it was offered here in Tacoma Washington.

Air conditioning? Gotta have that for the hot, humid summers here in Florida!

Getting rid of the evidence before the movie is released? Makes me wonder how the car was treated during filming

The Good: Overall condition, with minor peeling of the brightwork, particularly where the vinyl roof meets the “B” pillar, the price isn’t horrible. The Bad: No pictures of the engine or word on what engine mods were performed. The Ugly: It’s three-thousand miles away from me in California! The Verdict: A good solid driver that with some love could be a star! BTW, what’s up with the auxiliary gages under the radio? The factory gages include either voltage or amperage and engine temperature, so I’m assuming that the aftermarket gage set incudes oil pressure, but what else is there?

I agree with you regarding auxiliary gauges. Why do people install them, and what the hell are they doing *under* the dash? I would think you’d want them in the original stock place where the original gauges were, where it’d be easier to see. Aren’t there gauges that look more stock?

The Ghia was the luxury version of the Mustang II, with the formal roofline and vinyl roof. The sports version, with the fastback roof was called the Cobra. The notchback outsold the fastback by about two to one, and was so successful that it forced GM to offer a notchback version of the Chevy Monza, the Mustang II’s main competition at the time. The other GM divisions also got a version of the notchback roof, to go with their versions of the Monza, the H-Body line, as the Pontiac Sunbird, Olds Starfire and Buick Skyhawk.

Interesting to view the movie “trailer” that features this Mustang with the BAD sheriff that is a serial killer. Car looks good to me, and I like the color, but as stated, was it abused?

This may not be worth 9.5K, despite the movie connection, but it’s a much better investment than that ’85 non-running 9K Vette that I just previously viewed.

I wonder if there was damage to the rear of the Mustang when it was run into by the Sheriff’s car

No obvious damage except paint on bumper, not related to a bump. I would be more concerned with weekend racing reported.
