Bone Stock Z32: 1993 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo

The Z32-chassis Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo is one of the more iconic Japanese sports cars to emerge from the early 19990s but it’s still difficult to this day to pick a winner from that bumper crop of high-end coupes. The Mazda RX-7, Acura NSX, Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, and Toyota Supra were all members of a graduating class of sports cars and grand tourers that made being of driving age in the early 90s a very good thing indeed. It’s difficult to find a bone stock example of any of those cars that hasn’t been abused, but this 1993 300ZX Twin Turbo listed here on eBay with no reserve is here to show us that you can still buy your high school dream car – for a price.

Bidding is currently approaching $19,000 which will certainly make this one of the cheaper survivor-grade Z32s to sell in recent months if bidding doesn’t creep much higher. The color is fantastic, described as being Saphire Blue, which is definitely a shade we do not see all that often. The 300ZX is one of those cars that almost always pops up in red or black or white, and the terrific lines of the Z32 really do work well in almost any color. The best selling point this Z car has going for it is its bone-stock condition, right down to the factory alloy wheels. The other must-have detail is the 5-speed manual transmission.

Much like the Porsche 928, a manual gearbox was not a given in these cars owing to their ability to serve as a fast GT car. The combination of the twin-turbo V6 with the three-pedal option ensures this 300ZX is still a formidable performer today, but like any slightly-exotic car, maintenance is a must. The seller provides a detailed list of maintenance performed over the last few years which includes some big-ticket items. Highlights include new injectors and seals; new spark plugs; timing belt replacement; fuel pump and secondary pump replacement; fuel regulator and dampener replacement; shifter bushings replaced; and brand new Pirelli P-Zero tires.

The seller does list that the valve cover gaskets appear to be leaking, which he attributes to the fact that the car doesn’t see much use. The 300ZX spent much of its life in Florida before moving to the mid-west, so rust is presumably not much of a concern. The 300ZX also comes with T-tops and a factory Bose radio that has incredibly not been replaced with some aftermarket junk. Over the past two years, we have seen some of these turbo Z32s reach $50,000 or better for survivor examples, but I have a feeling those days are gone for the moment – so someone out there is likely to get an exceptional deal on a car that will only be worth more in the not-too-distant future.

Engine running at 1200 r’s at warm idle and voltmeter shows minus 13.8?

I believe that’s the turbo boost gauge you’re looking at.

Sold these new … 5-speed had 300hp, auto 280, and a Steve Millen Autosports model upgrade gave 365 hp and better handling for a mere $14k more … when it first came out I was selling Porsche-Audi-Subaru in Concord, CA, and we lost a lot of sales to the 300SX – it would out-perform and out-handle the 944 for a lot less …

Beautiful car and from the golden era of Japanese ‘sports cars’. But, there many many articles on the difficulty with engine bay access in the 300ZX, repairs it seems are very hard!!

And how! I’ve spent a lot of time working these and 4th-gen F-bodies. Neither is a treat when it comes time to work in the power barn!
