Dealer add-on packages were once a popular way for dealerships to make extra cash, plus have at least one elite example of a popular model sitting on their lot or in the showroom. The Mercury Cougar offered several special editions during its sixth generation of production, many based on specific geographic areas, such as the Coloradian, Houstonian, and the Bostonian. The latter continued into the car’s seventh generation, and this 1993 Mercury Cougar here on Craigslist proudly wears the distinctive Bostonian trim. This one is priced at $5,500, but it’s nowhere near Beantown; it’s currently in Inverness, Florida. Thanks to reader Zen for spotting this cool panther and sending us the tip!

Nearly every brand had some sort of Special Edition in the eighties and nineties, and earlier this week, we featured a beautiful 1985 Pontiac Grand Prix with the dealer-added Americana package here on Barn Finds. One simple clarification is needed about this Cougar: the seller lists it as a 1993 model in one field but posts 1997 in another. According to the letter “P” as the tenth digit in the VIN, it checks out to be a ’93. Much like the Americana, the Bostonian got buyers a special Landau vinyl roof, opera lights on the B-pillars, and a badge behind the side window.

The owner doesn’t mention much about the Cougar’s history, nor does he say whether the white paint is original. However, the vehicle’s condition is described as excellent, and the photos seem to back up that claim. No rust is reported on the top or bottom, and it looks like this one’s still in good enough condition to satisfy most buyers. The one cosmetic issue I spotted that you can fix in a few minutes is the faded plastic light lenses on the front, so a trip to your local auto store for a headlight restoration kit is well worth the ten bucks.

Although most aspects of this car seem positive, the only downside is under the hood. Mercury offered a V8 option for the Cougar in 1993, but unfortunately, this one has the entry-level 3.8-liter V6. It delivers more than one-fourth less horsepower than the larger engine, with a factory HP rating of 140, so unless you’re captivated by the Bostonian trim, it may be worth holding off for a well-kept seventh-generation example with the 200-horsepower 5.0.

The interior also appears well preserved and features nice equipment, including power windows, seats, and even a power sunroof. The A/C is said to blow ice cold, and the tires are reportedly new, so it sounds roadworthy and ready for the next owner to enjoy. Is this 1993 Mercury Cougar Bostonian one you’d be interested in pursuing?
