Cheap Woodie: 1984 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The 1980s Chrysler LeBaron was a K-car variant using front-wheel drive as the company was trying to become relevant again. That included a Town & Country wagon with “wood” paneling (as a nod to yesteryear). But in a unique twist, that treatment also extended to a line of convertibles like the seller’s “cheap wheels” opportunity. It’s a non-running project that hasn’t performed in 20 years, and you can have it here on craigslist for just $750. You’ll have to fetch it home via trailer from Duncan, British Columbia. Chalk another tip up to Barn Finder “Curvette.”

Convertible Town & Country’s were in the Chrysler LeBaron mix from 1983 to 1986. They were offered in “regular” and “Mark Cross” versions, with the latter being swankier in terms of trim. Demand for the Mark Cross editions was greater at 8,275 units in 1984 instead of 1,105. The seller’s car came with a 2.2-litre transversely mounted inline-4, which had a higher factory output with a turbocharger.

This vehicle may have been in storage since 2005 with 80,000 miles to its credit. The motor might have crapped out at that time, though the seller hasn’t said. The body, faux wood, and the Mark Cross upholstery all look okay in the less-than-ideal photos provided. The canvas top has holes in it, and we hope that hasn’t led to weather-related damage inside.

Poor health has prompted the sale of this project. If you’re lucky, a new top and a recycled engine might get the Chrysler back on the road. Worst case scenario is that you take a $750 gamble that doesn’t pay off.

I knew that there would be at least one beaten to death Jon Voight comment from the peanut gallery. 🙄

This one looks more like the one in trains, planes and automobiles after the wrong way drive between two semi trucks.

The cool thing about Chrysler in the 80s was their 5 point star emblem. And on the LeBaron (and a few other models) they had crystal stars. I spent the 90s and early 2000s going to junkyards snatching them off the wrecked cars. I should have about 15 of them. Maybe I’ll make a chandelier out of them.

Excellent idea for Chandeliers, because you light 💡up so many Lives! Not to be outdone, I also visited salvage yards and have accumulated a 💩 load of hood ornaments, emblems, even a PACKARD license plate frame. When I had my Fifth Avenues, I replaced the pentastar hood ornaments with Chrome Imperial Eagles! Once again, GREAT minds 👌

Well Washington State used to run a ferry out of Anacortes Washington to Sidney British Columbia from there it would have been another hour drive +/- so with the cost of gas, hotel ferry and food your looking at a few hundred dollars just to go get it so you are already starting off losing money I guess it boils down to how much money do you have to burn

Not a bad view from the front but the side view, with way too much fake wood, ruined it for me.
