Cheap Work Van: 1968 GMC G10 Van

68-gmc-g10-1

Needing some tlc to be roadworthy again, this GMC G10 looks to be a fairly solid project with cool looks.  Not much info is given on this GMC van, but it’s priced at just $1,200, so we are open minded to what some of its issues may be. Thanks Pat L for the submission! Find it here on craigslist out of Yuba City, California.

From what little we can see of the interior, it looks to be fair.  The exterior of this van looks pretty solid, although there is some rust in the rear of the van by the driver side lower rear door hinge. The paint looks questionable, but “The Running Chef” livery is neat. We are unsure of what you shouldn’t be doing according to the rear hubcap, but we think you should be buying this cool and useful classic. This GMC is propelled by a 230 cubic inch inline 6 and a manual 3 speed transmission. The seller claims this GMC needs a brake master cylinder and fuel lines to be a driver again.

With a little time and effort it looks like you are getting a lot for $1,200. This GMC would make a great parts and tool hauler, or perhaps even a small camper van? Or perhaps this could be your shag carpeted midlife crisis? What would you do with this 1968 GMC G10 van?

Stuff two old clapped-out dirt bikes in the back and go get my buddy Scott and ride motorcycles into the sunset. Like we did 44 years ago.

Is it just me or have there been a rash of thumbs down going on here lately? Not just on this thread but on almost all of them. I have seen them given on comments that were only adding facts and information to the thread. There is no way most of those comments should warrant a thumbs down. It makes me wonder why someone would do this. Rant over.

I would re-logo it int he style of Charley Varrick’s Crop Dusting Dodge A 100. You can watch the movie on youtube- lots of great old cars in it.

This would be a great gear hauler for my band! I would slap some Cragar SS wheels on it, primer the exterior and paint or band’s logo on the sides, and put her to work. Yes!

I’d turn that into the Mystery Machine from the original Scooby doo series.
For the money how can you go wrong, cheap fun!

I would buy this rite Now but im on the wrong freekin coast .I Had a 69 handyvan , It handled horible and it stopped even worse ,she had a straight 6 with a 3onthetree.I traded her for my first H-D to a friend of mine who used it to haul band equipment around .Vans are making a comeback ,I’d do it up just like a van from the 70’s with crazy paint and shag carpets, and AluMiniUm slots,oh yeah and its gotta have a V8 to roast the big fat tires that would be on the back. This van is Way Kool.

What’s up with the missing side marker lights and gas cap ? I had a 68 Chevy short wheelbase whoopee wagon Handyvan :) Same Ermine white and blue interior, same 6 and 3 on the tree. Mine had high back VW seats, Apollo slot wheels and red shag carpet. Packed with people the six banger pulled well enough but the drum brakes were a little weak.

I’m calling this one a turd..

It’s the ugliest van of the 60’s designs by far–not sure what GM killed the previous design for which had higher headlights and a much better front aesthetic.. Oh–and the garbage paint right over the rust–that’s prolly an indicator..

also had a late 60s SWB. Seat on da engine, sink behind the passenger’s, fold down table behind driver; cabs over the blank sidewall w/cut in joliette wind. below them & 4 roof vent; 2 back door windows, all curtained; removable plywood bed/work truck in bout ’70 – 3. In cognito cept 4 the trailer-style back windows. That 6 ran – interstate, in-town, b.rd.s, loaded up hills, sno…

I had a 69 Chevy Sportvan 90…lots of windows. V8 with a glide a rare 12 bolt posi. I guess they didn’t do too many heavy halfs on the 90″ wheelbase.
