Chevy-Powered Replica: Lamborghini Countach Tribute

We recently saw a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing come up for sale that is one of the best replicas I’ve ever seen. Now, we have a Lamborghini Countach that is a close second in terms of how well the facsimile has been executed, and this one even wears authentic Countach wheels – a $25,000 component, the seller notes. This Countach copy has a Chevrolet V8 and 5-speed manual and is listed here on eBay with bids of $26,300 and the reserve unmet.

I love the Countach, as it’s the hero car of my youth. Everyone wanted one, and even the kids who knew nothing about cars knew about this wild Lamborghini. While I didn’t have the same obsession over the model as some classmates did, there’s no denying the Countach is one of the most iconic sports cars ever made. This is why it’s not surprising that so many copycat kit cars exist, but it’s rare that one actually mimics the proportions so well. I’m sure in person you’ll see plenty of discrepancies, but I like what I’m seeing from the rear – the wing, taillights, and exhaust outlets at least looks correct.

The interior of a kit car is always a bit of a let-down, but this one isn’t bad. Sure, this is the part of the car that leaves no illusions as to its replica underpinnings, but the original builder of this kit at least tried to make it better than a bunch of mismatched parts-bin components. The steering wheel, however, is a disappointment, especially given how easy it is to swap in a classic three-spoke design. The seats, also, look like Pep Boys specials – I’d find a set of period-correct Recaros to dial in the aesthetic.

The wheels are interesting; I don’t know how one goes about finding a set of genuine Countach wheels, or how you justify spending the alleged coin necessary to buy a set, only to slap them on a replica that will likely struggle to break $40,000. Still, I appreciate the effort, as the wheels really do make this particular replica stand out from the throngs of low-rent copies. The seller acknowledges there is some finish work left to do, but this still looks like a lot of fun for the money.

Yes this is ok, but i have seen many way better!! The price might be ok if the reserve is soon met. The interior is a easy giveaway.

I would have to drive it to Aspen, like Lloyd & Harry, and pull up to the lodge with fur boots, goggles and glitter ski suits!

What chassis is it on? I don’t see it in the ad. Is it one of those Fieros?

Yes. The transverse mounted engine gives it away as a Fiero chassis. Probably used a V-8 Archie kit with the Getrag 5-speed.

You know, there are so many replica Countachs out there that real ones are usually accused of being a kit!

I wonder if any Countach replicas retain the tiny s10 wheezer Fiero v6 or even the iron duke! Nah.

I wonder what it’s titled as? That would tell you what the “donor” was. “Work required to finish” is certainly nice and vague :-)

The problem with all these replica/kit cars is that you are in a limbo world. If you try and show up at a Lamborghini event you will be shunned like the plague, so you are relegated to the Saturday morning cars and coffee event at your local strip mall.

The best Ferrari replica ever built is here: https://youtu.be/b3Ri_1N0s4U. Watch the whole video, but the Enzo appears at 3:00 in and is the star!

I think it would be really a fun toy
Not at 30K maybe 10K 20K if it was turn key
It is still a GM at heart

I don’t think you should call a kit car a replica.

Why can’t a kit car be called a replica? Seems to me they go hand-in-glove when the goal is to match another vehicle.

        From my view:
A kit car isn’t a replica unless the kit includes every part (NOS, reproduced perfectly etc.) needed to make the replica exactly like the original except for the VIN/id plate.

A fiberglass body that looks similar to some car and put on a VW or other chassis is not a replica. Putting fiberglass parts on a Fiero or a Datsun Z car doesn’t make it a replica. I’ll concede that a Zcar with the nose, tail and more fiberglass that looks like a 250 GTO made for great photos racing with me and my car some years back.

Jay Leno has a replica Cobra.Tube frame, NOS and original parts and a handmade alloy body that was made in WI and that’s where they built the car.
The same coach builder rebodied numerous Ferraris into 250 SWB and GTOs. I don’t consider these replicas but they are hard dam hard to tell without seeing the VIN.

There have been various other replica cars built. C type Jag is one that comes to mind

I never understood the desire to own one of these. $25k, so you can explain that it’s not what it is. Every time you park it.

Knock offs will never be cool, ever. This is an insult to Lamborghini.

May be, but I’ll bet this one starts and runs every time it’s asked to. Parts are cheap and you could get 200k out of a SBC. Lambo, uh, no.

So what you are attempting to say is gm builds a better car than Lamborghini? Small block Chevy motors are overrated trash. You clearly are just a know nothing gm lacky.
