Clean 1976 Triumph TR7

As far as little British sports cars go, pretty much par for the course is MG or Austin Healey. Triumph, in my opinion, especially the TR7, is underrated. The styling makes it look like a baby Lancia Stratos, and who doesn’t like the Stratos? Featuring pop-up headlights, a rare factory color scheme, and no rust, this TR7 can be found here on eBay, with a lot of well-deserved interest.

Based on the item description, it sounds like all the car needs mechanically is a fuel pump. Since it’s been sitting for a few years, it could probably stand to benefit from some new fluids and maybe a general refresher and check-up. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, producing just 92 horsepower in North American spec, and driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual. It doesn’t run at all now, but once a new fuel pump is installed and it does run, 92 horsepower might not seem like a lot, but it’s undoubtedly fun to drive.

The interior is in fantastic condition, like the body, paint, frame, and suspension. It looks like the radio might be missing, as are the carpets, but short of a few rips on the seats and an even coating of dust, everything looks decent. No cracks, no missing trim, no discoloration, original Smiths gauges. I see no air conditioning compressor or controls, but if you roll down the windows, that should help on the warm summer days.

On the plus side of those missing carpets, you can see the floors. No taking the seller at their word here, you can see for yourself that there is no rust, the factory topaz paint proudly brightening up the interior. It looks to be coming from a caring home, too. In one of the images included in the listing, another TR7 can be seen in a garage in the background. A caring home is always a good thing in any car’s history, especially when dealing with something as stereotypically finicky as a British sports car. If all it truly does need is that new fuel pump, this would make for a fantastic weekend car to tinker around with.

Obviously put some gas shocks on it the wrong length. Looks like it’s ready for off road use. Also, lot of that funky color paint around all of a sudden. Maybe same seller with bad taste of colors?

Hate to say this but many of these write ups need to be proof read…lots of inaccurate statements and grammatical errors…otherwise, a great site!

Those look like the dreaded Stromberg carbs. Car wouldn’t run properly no matter how they were mounted.

“The interior is in fantastic condition”! What? The interior is a disaster! I was shocked it was so bad after seeing the outside of the car.

Agreed. I’ve been seeing a lot of misinformation and questionable statements in many of the write ups as mentioned above…

I love to paint on these cars mg’s triumphs any of that era Porsches they had wacky colors that show what year they were from. The interior is in great shape you should see some of the ones I’ve seen all it needs is a nice carpeting I would lower it and put on some passports as well

“baby Lancia Stratos”? The TR7 was actually longer, higher and heavier than a Stratos.

Do I really need to be told to “…roll down the windows” on a warm summer day?
