Clean 5.0L 5-Speed: 1991 Ford Mustang LX

Despite there not being any risk of clean Fox body Mustangs drying up any time soon, there will likely come a day when a minty notchback is a difficult car to find. This 1991 LX coupe looks like a stunner, wearing its original “Wild Strawberry” paint, which I honestly can’t imagine telling my friends is the name of the color code of my red Mustang coupe. Naming convention aside, the finish appears to be in excellent condition and the car does look to be as bone-stock as the seller claims. There may be some aftermarket mufflers, but otherwise, this is a pleasingly original manual transmission coupe. Find it here on eBay with bidding at $21,300 and no reserve.

The seller notes he just recently drove this Mustang from Ohio to beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida, but doesn’t elaborate as to whether he’s a snowbird or flipping this survivor-grade ‘Stang. It seems like the latter, as the listing notes the original owner looked after the Mustang for 25 years, and likely sold it to the current registered owner. Flippers are so rampant these days that it’s hard to get worked up anymore about it – and who knows, this car may not have seen the light of day if it wasn’t snatched up by the current seller. Regardless, current bidding suggests that the seller will likely make a few dollars on the transaction, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it creep past $25,000.

It just presents too well, with no evidence of abuse or poorly-executed modifications. The interior even appears to show the factory radio still in place in the center stack, but the seller admits that no sound comes out from the headunit at present. Fox body Mustangs were not exactly luxurious inside, but this one is at least an attractive color pairing of “”DA” Cloth and Vinyl Titanium” with the red exterior. Amazingly, the map pockets on the door panels remain in good shape, a feature that is impossible to find even on pristine examples like this. The seller adds that it comes equipped with power windows, mirrors, and door locks, but that the locks are not working. The air conditioning does work, however.

What is working, amazingly, is the original smog pump. The Mustang remains highly original, with all VIN tags present and the factory-installed catalytic convertors still on the car. How many 5.0L V8-equipped Fox bodies can say that? The seller isn’t sure whether the mufflers have been replaced, but confirms the car isn’t loud – so it seems likely there’s some added noise he can’t confirm as being the result of aftermarket equipment, but I suppose you could just look at the mufflers and see if there’s an obvious aftermarket brand name stamped into them. It’s a small point in what otherwise presents as a gorgeous example of a notchback Fox body Mustang. Where do you think bidding will end up?

There are other collectible Fox Body Mustangs, for example the 1993 Cobras. But for a “regular” Fox Mustang, this is probably the top of the list for many people: a clean, original, 5.0 5-speed notchback. So like Jeff suggests, let’s watch what it ends up selling for.

    The seller ended the sale.

I wonder why when it was bid up so high.

I wonder if this LX is either a very late-run ‘91 or actually a ‘92, as the wide trim band that goes around the circumference of the car and on the bumpers is body color like a ‘92, not black.

I love these cars but would prefer a lower entry point so as not to feel guilty after making it “helmet” fast
