Colonnade Cruiser: 1975 Chevrolet Malibu Classic

The General Motors Colonnade craze that swept the country by storm was halfway through its cycle in 1975, with all four divisions seeing strong success with their A-Body offerings.  Chevrolet was lucky enough to have a couple of colonnade-style cars in the lineup, including the Monte Carlo, one of the era’s more popular personal luxury coupes.  The other was the Chevelle, like this 1975 Malibu Classic here on Facebook Marketplace.  The seller says he mainly uses it as a weekend cruiser, but this one may be nearly good enough for a daily driver.  This cool coupe is located in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, and priced at $8,000.  Zen, thanks for another great tip here!

I always felt mag wheels seemed right at home on both the first two generations of the Chevelle, though I never really thought about or pictured them on a third-gen hardtop.  However, the big-and-little Cragar S/S wheels look sharp here, and while the mid-seventies Malibu Classic is a far cry from the muscle car the Chevelle SS was a few years earlier, they really do add a welcome sporty touch outside.  However, I like the overall stance better when the rear is closer to the ground, rather than the shocks being full of air.  The exterior appears to be in decent shape overall, but the seller is transparent that the paint is far from perfect, and he also mentions some rust around the rear wheel openings and bottoms of the doors.  For a nice driver, it may be good enough for a while, until the urge hits to do the necessary sheet metal repairs and spray on fresh paint.

The 350 was the smallest V8 available in the Chevelle for ’75, and by this time, its horsepower had dropped down to 180.  Fortunately, this one has received a few mods under the hood, including headers plus a dual exhaust system the previous owner reportedly added.  The seller reports the small block also has a few other performance parts, and while there are no further details, this Chevy is described as running and driving perfectly.  It also has an automatic transmission.

No specifics are provided about the interior, but it seems fairly basic, with a standard vinyl bench seat up front.  Speakers have been added to the door panels, but it also looks like some were removed from the rear package tray, and there doesn’t appear to be a radio of any type in the dash.  The seller says he might be open to a trade, but also says he doesn’t really need to sell this Chevelle, so the cash price may not be very negotiable.  What are your thoughts on this 1975 Chevrolet Malibu Classic?  Is it worth anywhere near the $8k asking price?

It’s a colonnade cruiser. You can make it as you like it. Nice lines here.

What is the purpose of the weird multicoloured hose, going from the water pump to the aluminum intake manifold? May also want to source a fan shroud.
