Custom Chevy Hauler: Backyard Build

chevyhauler

Yup. That’s an old school bus with the back-end sawed off and converted into a miniature flat-bed trailer. What else is there to say? Well, you can find it here on craigslist in Missouri (where else?) for less than $3,000. It is, however, a great solution for anyone who brings their cars to an event and then stays overnight. With carpeting, A/C and a fridge, you can sleep in your rig, leaving the plebes to fight for a spot to put their tent. It does seem like this primarily caters to rock hopping enthusiasts (as the seller appears to be), but it would also be put to good use at tracks like Lime Rock where camping is encouraged, or other non-automotive events like the Ragbrai bike ride that sprawls across the Midwest and is known for its unusual assortment of school buses converted to provide sleeping arrangements and portable showers. No matter what you do with it, you’ll be the only one there in a rig like this. How would you use this one-off school bus conversion? Thanks to Olaf E for the find.

Don’t know about the only one…back in the ’80s there were several of these in the county I grew up in (in Southern MN)…

Unfortunately, the link comes up ‘expired’. I was hoping to see more photos.

I was interested in how the thing drove with the rear bed resting on the rear tires.

I must tell you that the weight would depend on the axel rating! I am a retired over the road driver and he probably doesn’t even know that it is there unless he hits a dip in the road! LOL

You wont be the only one with a bus like that around here. Cut up busses are very popular with the roundy round crowd here among other racers.

Maybe it has air ride to lower the bed for easier loading.

There was a mass murderer/polygamist in Fresno that had one like this…………..
