Dark Moss Green? 1967 Ford Mustang GTA

I don’t think that I get this entire “youse-ta-bee” thing. The seller of this 1967 Ford Mustang GTA states, “Very desirable dark moss green“. Well maybe it used to be at one time but it is no more. I’m not sure how valuable or desirable a facet of something is when it is no longer evident. Unless of course, the seller is referencing dark green moss that is growing on this Ford’s exterior…After all, when outside seems like a good place to store an old car, that’s what happens. Also stated is, “Vehicle needs a full restoration but it’s very buildable“. Really? Let’s take a look and see if we agree. This GTA fastback is located in Aragon, Georgia and is available, here on eBay for a BIN price of $17,500.

So, what do we know about this car? Very little other than what the images reveal, and that ends up being quite a bit, actually. The VIN isn’t disclosed but the seller claims that it’s a GTA model so it originally had a V8 engine and an automatic transmission. The body is covered in surface rust, there is some rust through too, there is a smattering of dents, lots of missing parts, and general misalignment (straps to hold the doors shut?). The primer, and what looks like evidence of grinding/sanding, tells me that someone attempted a restoration undertaking and then decided to quit. Bumpers, lights, brackets, grille, corner pieces, and hood vent inserts are all gone. Perhaps this Mustang is a victim of parts poaching.

Not only is the power train missing but the center section of the rear axle has been pulled as well. The original V8 engine would have been either a 289 or 390 CI unit but no VIN is listed so there’s no way to verify unless the seller knows. There are no included engine compartment images so I’ll run with the assumption that there’s nothing there.

As with the engine situation, so goes the interior – it appears to be gutted. A steering wheel can be spotted through the windshield so at least that’s still in place but there are no other included images, except the one displayed above. I’ll suggest that the entire interior environment will have to be built from scratch – right down to the wiring and smallest details. At least all of the glass is still present.

So, if you’re looking for a Mustang fastback project, here you go. You can also buy an entirely new, straight, rust-free ’67 Mustang fastback body from Dynacorn for what this outdoor specialty costs. True, it’s not a complete one-to-one comparison but at least there’s no rust to repair or body panels to straighten. That’s my suggestion, what’s yours?

Cleary the OP has never owned a fastback or a dynacorn body. They are junk with no vin number. Most people don’t have the skills to fix this car but leave it to the real men.

Strapping the door handles together should tell you something of what this car really is.

Don’t normally like to beat on the cars here but this is not worth 1700.00 much less 17,000.00. Don’t need to show this junk to us.

    Wheres the car?
I see a hot mess shell with the pumpkin head gone from rear end, no interior and rotted body.

I suggest put it on a rollback to drop in a river or dream bigger and ship to Barrett Jackson and get 1500 dollars if lucky 🍀..

Harry you need to accept this alleged car is not the dream car gor buyers.

        Drive train 5-7 grand
        Finding interior 2 grand
        Wiring and instruments 1500
        Replacement body 17500
        Paint 12000
        Rearend 1200
        Wheels and tires 3000
And the list keeps going….at 44,200

Its a restomod at best and under water where it’s cheaper to get an original together non junker car versus a field car or found in woods vehicle

Where can we collect the five grand?

A 428 CJ vin tag and not 17500.
        How can that be?

The reproduction body and this field car works better

But we know your car is sooooo much better right?

Judging by your comments you must have a lot of experience with Fastbacks. Can you show me a similar ‘better’ car for a lot less money? I’ll buy it.

No, it’s not a Mustang. It is a much better and classier Cougar. I will take that any day over a Mustang. Oh, wait, I have already done that many times over.

Back in the day first gen Mustang fastbacks were a dime a dozen. However, I went over to Hemmings and the cheapest Mustang of this vintage was a driver for 29k. The fastbacks were around 100k. None said GTA as such. If the VIN can establish the provenance, who knows? The prices just floored me.

Hmm, with almost half a million fastbacks made, the only rarity and high value is in the heads of the fastback owners. If someone is using Hemmings and Barrett Jackson to scale the value of these cars then they shouldn’t be in the car hobby.

You can get a marti report from the vin number which tells you how the vehicle left the factory.

50k on parts to restore a 60’s mustang? y’all need to put your glasses back on grandpa

I think Jim means $50k on bodywork. The reproduced body parts are actually not that expensive, but paying a body man $110 per hour to do body work would add up very fast and put this project under water.

In the description section of the ebay listing the seller states that the car is an A code 289 4V car.

It might not have been there originally. I have no idea. The seller could have come back at any time and added the engine information by revising the listing.

I actually own the 4 speed version of this car, in Dark Moss Green. You can see the actual color on the passenger side rear fender and under the trunk lid.

    As for a restoration…..I don’t think so.

I think 17,500.00 is a lot of money for a shell by time it is all said and done you will probably have over a 100,000.00 dollars into it with out the 17,500.00 dollars the current owner wants restomodes are worth it in the end if they are done right with no short cuts it needs paint, body work, new rear quarters, trunk lid, all the missing parts, wiring harness, new suspension, all new brakes, new Ford coyote engine, and six speed manual transmission, and interior all of those things new I think you would be lucky to be able to finish it for anything under 120,000.00
