After a life time spent in the dry California sun, this Barracuda is a ready to drive. Featuring low miles and little to no rust, this fish is in need of some beautification and some good old fashioned elbow grease. Bidding has reached $4,050 with the reserve not met. Nicely optioned, this Cuda features a factory 318 V8 automatic drive-train with power steering and power brakes. Although there are some signs of age in the engine bay, this Mopar is relatively clean having covered only 80,000 miles in it lifetime. A one owner car up until 3 years ago, it is easy to see why this dry climate fish is so solid.
Like all dry climate cars, the interior and rubber trim items are in need of a lot of help. Obviously the seats are a train wreck, but the seller does have replacement seat covers to go with the car. The door panels look to be in fair condition, as does the dark colored carpet. The headliner is trashed, and the dash looks to be okay, with some paint chipping around the gauges. There also is a broken piece of plastic missing from the dash and it appears that the dash pad is missing entirely.
The paint is a rather tricky illusion, often like a scaly fish skin. Both rear quarters have been repaired and resprayed, as it would seem there were some not so pleasant dents on both sides. The car has been reprayed at some point before the repairs as there is clear coat chipping. There are some other miscellaneous dents to be found on this Mopar. One thing that is concerning to me is the lower body line that so abruptly vanishes when it get to the rear quarter panels. I realize that line fades out naturally, but it seems to fade out quickly. The seller mentions using minimal bondo to straighten out the rear quarters, but I just wonder what really lurks under that paint. The great news is that rust looks like a non-issue with this car as the rockers and quarters appear solid. Ready to drive, and quite solid, would you reel in this big fish?
I had a 68 notch back that was very similar to this in the same color with the same options but a black interior. I’m not convinced that power brakes and power steering are desirable options in this car. The brakes would lock up way too easily and the steering was way over boosted. Literally one finger steering if you wanted to drive that way.
I own a 68 notchback 318 2-barrel with power steering. Yes, I agree with the one finger steering. I do not have power brakes.

Mmmm… potential. No more than a couple thousand. There’s lots of work to be done here. On the bright side, one can drive and repair on the cheap if that’s your thing. The bondo on the rear body is a whole lotta mess. In the end I’d do with gloss black body, wide chrome cragers, black interior. Killer look for these.
I’d wager those rear quarters are nearly completely sculpted from Bondo. The good news is that the front fenders look decent. You can easily get good re-popped quarters for these cars, but the front fenders are nearly impossible to find and are not reproduced. I’d go back stock with this one.
What others have said about the power steering on these early A -bodies. This kinda a rare fish – rare bumper guards option,,,see two of the rare wires…just wounder…as this one seems kinda fishee. Would be great if he could show some as found….and what about that rear spring shackle photo….anyone see a rust issue to the right – a little pocket rust. Funny it doesn’t have A/C for the area but that was a high option.
The front clip looks to be to die for….hard to find that plastic grille in good shape.
My look alike 69 coupe is the same green – but came as a base – 6 cylinder three on the tree….drove it for years…..
I used to have a 68 notch back. Formula S with original 340. Power steering and power disc brakes.
Great little speed demon, was great fun and ran like crazy.
I guess it’s too bad not to have it these days.
