Drive Or Finish? 1972 Chevrolet Camaro

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Unexpected events in life happen far too often, and sadly, the owner of this 1972 Chevrolet Camaro says he was thrown a curve ball that’s forcing the sale here.  The neighbors will probably be glad to see this one go, as the exhaust consists of just straight pipes, but that’s an easy remedy unless you live in a more rural area than the seller and decide to forego installing mufflers.  This cool Chevy is in Eugene, Oregon, and can be seen here on Craigslist, with our thanks going out to reader Rocco B. for sending in the tip!  If everything checks out solid, I’m not finding the asking price of $15,500 an unreasonable amount to consider paying here.

Few details are provided regarding the body, besides the mention that two extra front fenders are included in the sale.  There’s also no word on the original color, and although the area inside the passenger door is black, most of the exterior is now wearing gray primer.  Other than a couple of minor dents, the panels seem to be in decent shape overall, though it’s not addressed whether this one’s received bodywork or if the sheet metal has always looked like this.  It’ll have to be up to the next owner to decide whether to retain the primer vibe or choose to spray on a fresh coat of paint instead.

Information about the engine is a bit vague as well, but the seller does confirm it’s a 350 with a 4-barrel on top, though he doesn’t specify if the small block is original to the car.  Fortunately, things in the bay appear orderly, and I’m sure the description is correct when this one is said to be LOUD in all caps, especially with those headers.  A new gas tank has been added and the fuel lines replaced, although the only clue we get about the transmission is that it’s automatic.

The condition inside seems decent enough already for a driver, with a few aftermarket items visible such as a trio of gauges, the B&M shifter, plus the Stereo with additional speakers added to the doors and rear side panels.  One important area that’s never addressed is the platform, so I’d probably at least inquire if everything is still solid underneath before heading to The Beaver State with a sackful of cash in hand.  Is this 1972 Chevrolet Camaro one you’d be interested in taking over?

I used to have a 72 with the same Centerline wheels. This one seems to be missing its A/C compressor, had its dash cut for a radio and looks like it used to be a column shift car. Basically, it’s like most Camaros of that vintage. Price is in the ballpark, if the car doesn’t have any hidden horrors, but I don’t follow the market closely as I will never sell my 71.

Centerline Champ 500’s! The quarters are horrible, and the molded, in this case apparently “mudded” rear spoiler is indicative of very poor workmanship.

Cars in primer are scary, it hides lots of flaws. The body work where both rear quarter panels meet the taillight panel looks sketchy, I wouldn’t expect the extra front fenders to be trouble free. Straight pipes suggests the seller was trying to save money by not installing mufflers or tailpipes. The seller says he’s asking what he has into it, unfortunately for him, that shouldn’t matter to potential buyers. The only thing that matters is the car worth the asking price when compared to other cars on the market. Anyone interested needs to go over this car with a fine tooth comb to ensure they know exactly what they are getting for their money.

Roll bar, straight pipes, ratchet shifter, primer over obviously imperfect panels. This one gives “Roadkill” vibes, which is not all bad, as long as the price is right. I would personally find the price a bit high, unless the motor is a quality crate motor with some paperwork, which I doubt. The pics indicate some panels need some work, so the primer would have to come back off if someone wanted to elevate the look above the Roadkill vibe. It might be a solid foundation for someone to take to the next level, or it might be someone’s next mistake.

Close inspection for rust on this absolutely required prior to purchase. Some of the photos appear to reveal lumpy bondo under the primer especially at the intersection of the fenders and rear panel. These Camaros rust everywhere. I did the bondo method in my young and dumb years on mine to try and hide the rust. Learned that rust never gets better. Especially under bondo. Rustiest car I ever owned.

The malibu /chevelle was great until the ugly colonade arrived , these square boxes looked good as a monte carlo SS but otherwise fell short , the ones with tucked in bumpers improve the look but still look like taxi …
