“Everything Works!” 1972 Chrysler Newport

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

“Fuselage” styling makes this 1972 Chrysler Newport a sleek sedan. Elegantly elongated hood and trunk dimensions easily bestow “land yacht” status. Though not a police package car, the San Antonio, Texas classic wears temporarily-installed police lights and badges to demonstrate how it might look as a cop car “tribute.” More on that later. Check out additional pictures and details here on eBay where at least three bidders have this tidy Chrysler’s market value over $900 with about four days left. It’s no surprise that falls short of the seller’s Reserve, but it only takes two interested parties to ramp up the excitement before the hammer drops.

Look at that claimed original fabric! Including a picture of any wear on the driver’s seat is a must for any honest seller, but if it’s as good as what we see here, that would be amazing. This blue and white color scheme may attract buyers who can’t go all-in on ’70s color schemes like triple-green or double-gold. My Grandparents had a nice ’69 Dodge Coronet in double-gold, and I still have a soft spot for them.

It would be easy to forgive someone for nick-naming this white whale Moby Dick. That’s original paint, too, according to the listing. Among Chrysler’s fuselage cars, I favor the 1969 to 1973 Imperial, but this car’s lines hits the mark as well with reserved elegance. Just before safety regulations introduced “diving board” bumpers bow and stern, this rear chrome unit integrates nicely with the body while still granting ten times the protection of anything sold today.

While this is not a police car, it’s a crime to sell any car without including an engine picture. These door panels look nearly perfect, though. I believe my 1966 Dodge Coronet had nearly the same arm rests. The half-baked police car presentation confuses me, and I’d probably want power windows, but the seller says this car’s air conditioning blows cold, something rarely encountered here at Barnfinds. What’s your top dollar on this “drive… anywhere” classic?

Yeeee-Hawww( firing pistols in the air) The stars at night are big and bright(stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp) deep in the heart of Texas. Texas, got to love ’em, Mother Nature must hate them. Either it’s dry as a popcorn fart, or inundated with water. This ( the lights and sireeen ) may seem a bit much, but I think it’s perfectly acceptable in Texas. Tree hugging Colorado, not so much. What’s that on the dash, a compass? I saw one at the antique store the other day,,,looking beyond that, if possible, it is a really nice car.

Well here goes! I never appreciated the fuselage look and this is too basic for my tastes. I would welcome Boss Hoggs White Cadillac, but as for this Chrysler, I hope it finds a New Port, but I’m going to COP OUT!

That’s a poor write up. You failed to mention the 400 engine and that it only has 110,000 miles. The current bid is up to $2025. with 3 days and 8 hours to go. A Chrysler Newport is the wrong MoPAR. If you want cop you need a Dodge Polara or a Plymouth Fury with a 440.

The lightbar set-up is worth more than the entire vehicle.

“Sleek”, and “elegant” are not descriptors that I would bestow upon this vehicle. Looks like it spent too much time at the donut shop.

Lovely looking car. I don’t get why it has the police badge on the driver’s side of the car, but not the passenger’s side of the car. Don’t most police cars have it on both sides of the car?

This is a “mock up”, and light bar is not included they say in ad.

That light bar is worth more than the car.

    I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Chrysler police car,so it just
doesn’t look right with the “extras”.
That said,it still looks like a nice car.

This sure is one original, clean looking Chrysler. Would have preferred it without all the police add-ons for the auction but always loved these years fuselage styling. If it sells I hope it goes to a good home.

I’m not sure why the seller did the cop car mockup – it does the car no favors.

What you have here is an honest, basic transportation vehicle. I have no use for something like this, but I would love to own it.

It reminds me of a ’70 Coronet 4 door 318 that was pristine like this one that my brother picked up for cheap back in the early 90’s. Amazingly no rust for a New England car, must have been parked in a garage and not driven in the winter. We had a blast in that car!
