Export Quality: 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee

When it comes to selling a car, some sellers give us plenty of information and photos to work with while others don’t give us that much at all. The seller of this 1970 Dodge which is listed here on Craigslist certainly doesn’t drown us in information and we only have this one photo to work from. Located in Brownstown, Pennsylvania, the seller has this car listed at $5,000. The title for this one is listed as missing and the car is being sold on a Bill of Sale. Barn Finds reader Levi Andrus referred this Coronet through to us to consider.

The seller refers to this as a “real 70 Super Bee project car”, so let’s start with things mechanical. The car is fitted with a 383ci engine and 727 automatic transmission, although the owner doesn’t believe that these are numbers matching components. We have no indication whether the car runs or not.

The seller states that they have the fender tag and build sheet which identify this as an export car. They also state that the front of the car is solid, but that the rear will need some work. The car is also missing its front bench seat and gauge cluster, but the seller states that all of the one-year-only, non-reproduced items are there and working.

The seller states that this is a very cool Mopar project car worthy of the investment. For me the great frustration is how generalized the information is, and how few photos the seller provides to verify any claims. Some of the claims are extremely vague. An example of this is the statement that the rear of the car will need some work. This could mean anything from a small amount of patching to major structural reconstruction.  Would this be a project that you’d consider or one that you’d pass on?

I thought Pennsylvania was greener than that.

This is one of those cars that keep me up at night. I love thinking about finds such as these, and how I would go about restoring and modifying it.

Generally speaking this car from the outside looks exceptionally solid, but, the lack of pictures generally raises some concerns. If the car has not been molested by the harsh Pennsylvania weather, it might be the deal of the century. Conversely, it would not surprise me to find that the quarters have significant rust or that all floor pans are in need of replacement.

If in the magical world of make-believe, I was to own this car, I would not only fix all the rust in the back, but I would most definitely paint it a dark blue and add a gear vendors for better highway driving.

Export sale doesn’t mean much…the US military exchanges had outlets where you could order a car and it would be tagged “Export.” W/O further documentation, Speedo in KM’s, different lights (many countries turn signal must be amber), foriegn registration..? Just an ordered car, probably never left the US

“do not believe to be numbers matching”…..I am not a Mopar guy at all but is it that hard to “know or not know”? If easy to know …..does that translate to “it’s NOT but maybe if your lucky it will magically match one day? Ugh!!

Looks like a super bee ramcharger hood missing the twin scoops could be in the trunk ,i like it because its original and not 20 coats of differant collors of paint.allittle work on this and can bring a pretty penny.

Non number match? No title? A whole bunch of restoration costs! In my opinion, it’s not worth the brownery around it! Especially if there is no pictures or proof of anything they are claiming!

Yeah, almost like they don’t really want to sell it. As in it’s a wife -forced sale. ” Gee I tried to sell it but nobody called. How ’bout you go back to the kitchen and burn another pie?”

It’s been listed for 29 days, same add! Look carefully at the rear fender , you’ll see daylight. May Not be too bad of a starting point for a project. Good luck to the new owner and seller.
