Fantastic Four: Fleet Of FJ40 Land Cruisers

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Toyota “FJ40” Land Cruiser is one of the most iconic classic off-road vehicles in the world. While you couldn’t purchase a new one in the US after 1983, they were actually produced in Brazil through 2001 and continue in use in numerous applications today. This set of four project vehicles and parts are for sale here on eBay for $30,000. They are located in Prosper, Texas.

As you can see from the advertisement headline, neither Toyota nor the Land Cruiser tended to back away from fights. With slightly more sophistication than a Land Rover and unmatched toughness the Land Cruiser quickly gained a reputation for being the go-to vehicle for many off road enthusiasts.

In addition to the four vehicles (a 1975, two 1976s and a 1980), included in the sale is a trailer full of spare parts.

If FJ40s are your thing, your heart is probably racing right now!

More parts to sweeten the deal.

It sounds like the trailer containing the parts is included as well, although I’d check  with the seller to make sure. Our friends over at Jalopnik published a neat article here on what one is like to drive. If you are already salivating, check out the article and then tell us how you are going to bring four vehicles and a trailer full of parts home!

    Well, as with any vehicle…….

    ONE is called “a car”.
    TWO is called, “a pair”.
    THREE is called, “a collection”.
And FOUR or more is called, “a junk yard”.

PS. A word to the wise…. FOUR or more can also be called, “grounds for divorce”.

I have several past “4 for divorce” and the wife helped me find them. Mostly parts vehicles. The better ones are in side.

About $15,000 too much as long as none are are rust buckets. ( see rear quarters above rear frame/bumper).
The market has cooled somewhat in the last year but still strong.
    I still love my Crusher

BJ42 in Europe…Probably there is a reason why it’s not called that in USA….

We had one back in the day,mid80s to early 90s. With diesel engine that seemed very reliable. I guess it had over 200K miles when we sold it. Some brake work were done, clutch twice(we were pulling trailers etc) but engine just needed basic maintenance. Steering joints were a b**ch, there was a gazillion of those and with 205 width tires and miles there was some play in almost all of them. And interesting at parking lots with those tires and manual steering.

Very basic and a bit cold during harsh Finnish winters but always got us where ever we were going .Rust started to be an issue because of the road salt. Had roof that could be unbolted but way too much work,no canvas top so we never did that.

Very dependable, a bit uncomfortable for commute and even though I liked it I would not buy one again. Been there done that.

My wife called ours the ‘noddy wagon’, due to the hard springs and short wheelbase, but great for towing the boat and/or caravan, (trailer home), as long as you weren’t in a hurry.
A friend put a 350 Chev motor in his and screwed the splined ends off the front axle shafts, just a bit too much torque for the Japanese recycled steel.
