Former Show Car: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

After a 9-year model run for the first generation Corvette, Chevrolet rolled out the C2 in 1963 with that legendary split-window design for the coupes during its inaugural year.  And while the ’63 Chevy Corvette here on eBay is a droptop model without the coveted rear glass, it’s a desirable car in its own right and less likely to break the bank to get it in your driveway.  Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, is where the vehicle presently resides, and bidding is up to $32,101 with more to go before the reserve is met.

The seller tells us the car’s previous owner was in possession of the Corvette for the past 25 years, and that it is said to have once been a show car, with some additional chrome items having been added.   The C2 still presents nicely all around overall, and although it’s not perfect, for a driver things seem acceptable pretty much the way they are, with nothing imperative obviously needing immediate attention before the next owner gets behind the wheel.

At some point in the ‘Vettes history, a restoration was performed, but we’re not told exactly how far back in the car’s past this took place.  A respray was done in the original color, with the seller rating the current finish as 8.8 on a 10 scale.  The body seems to be mostly in good shape, with an exception up front in the fenders, as each one has a crack.  But if you can live with this, at least for the time being, the rest of the exterior looks like it could go for a number of years longer without any serious attention.

There’s still a 327 under the hood, of which the seller isn’t sure whether or not it’s the original small block, but he does state that the engine, 4-Speed transmission, clutch, and rear-end all seem to be in good working order.  The Corvette was taken on a 110-mile round-trip just a couple of months ago and is said to have performed flawlessly, and, of course, drew plenty of attention and got lots of thumbs-up!

It’s not mentioned what parts of the interior were refreshed during the restoration some time ago if any, but things inside look OK for a driver-quality car, especially for a convertible.  The white top is older but said to still be in decent shape, though the back window is a bit foggy.  However, the side and the front glass are all stated to be in very good shape.  This one seems like a pretty good driver as it sits, and one that can be enjoyed as you work on it in the future, should the next owner choose to make improvements over time.  What would you do with this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette convertible?

I know what I would do Mike. Drop the top, turn off the radio and grab some gears. Smiling wherever my journey takes me. Nice ride.

Nice car. Do a mild inside repair of the front fenders and drive it.

Repair fenders — fiberglass cracks never sleep — and make sure all systems work properly. Then clean. Then drive. Drive it a lot.

That’s what these cars were intended to do. They do it well. Why miss out on the fun?

Extremely hard to take the vin under the dash glovebox looking above floor board and walk three feet standing and look on front area behind fan blade and wipe of grease or dirt to confirm original block vin on block. Its as hard as getting off the couch and pouring two shots of bourbon and putting the bottle back on the table .

I like this vette but will bid as the NOM that is under the hood.

Selective memory occurs a couple times per month by sellers. Saying I don’t know when one knows. YouTube can tell you how to tie your shoe with video upto to rewiring your house .. for those who really don’t know at finger tips or talking to siere or Alexa 😉

    Good luck with sale

A couple of things strike me: Per the eBay description, the seller is listing for a friend who is a small dealer for “regular cars”, though not classics. So his friend doesn’t know how to use eBay? Must be a really small dealer…I also note the car is wearing Vermont plates in Pennsylvania which suggests title problems; Google “the Vermont loophole” to see what I’m talking about. It’s a nice car, but I would be asking a lot of questions before committing to anything.

I live about 45 minutes from this car. Love it, but also interested in that white 70 GTO. Yes, Vermont plates on a PA car is a concern. Used to live in Vermont. Screwed up place in all respects.

Not that it matters tremendously on a low-horsepower ’63 convertible but this Corvette does NOT have its original engine. Just sayin’.
