Frank Sinatra Ties? 1965 Ford Thunderbird

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

In some cases, a celebrity’s association with an automobile may be somewhat of a selling point, if it’s verifiable and the car is unique or special.  However, even if past ownership credibility is dubious, it’s still an interesting conversation starter, and the seller of this 1965 Ford Thunderbird believes the car may have been originally purchased by Frank Sinatra.  This one’s a non-running project, and it’s going to require some work in most areas before Ol’ Blue Eyes would even think about giving it a second glance again.  However, it’s mostly complete and reasonably priced at $2,599.  This T-Bird is in Roy, Washington, and can be spotted here on Craigslist, with our thanks going out to reader Curvette for sending in the tip here!

The verbal history that has been passed down through the ages goes something like this.  The person the seller acquired the car from stated that it came from an estate sale, and said that Frank had purchased the Thunderbird in 1965 for his daughter, Nancy Sinatra.  It was sold a year later, with the original registration showing a last name of Sinatra, but the first name has been stamped through.  Unfortunately, this one has also deteriorated considerably since the mid-sixties, with the spray-can primer finish applied before the seller bought it over 20 years ago.  There’s certainly going to be some bodywork needed here before the exterior is ready for a fresh coat of Midnight Turquoise, but hopefully, many of the panels will end up being solid enough to just make repairs on.

This is one of those cases where the car was lot-driveable as recently as five years ago, but not before the 390 was hooked up to a gas can, an electric fuel pump, and a jump from the solenoid to get it turning, as the key ignition wasn’t always working properly.  The seller states there was some engine smoke and ticking, but no knocking noises were noticed at the time, and he believes at a minimum that a tune-up and oil change are now needed.  I always appreciate an optimistic thinker, but something tells me that it may be nearing time for an overhaul.

The blue interior could use some refreshing as well, but it does have that cool tilt-away steering column, and this one’s also equipped for A/C, though those components are missing.  A new carpet, headliner, and windshield are some specific items mentioned as needing replacement, and while there are likely several others, the low asking price just might even things out here.  Is this 1965 Ford Thunderbird a worthwhile project for the cost?

We’ve seen this two times before on Barn finds with first 12/4/19 And updated 3/4/20 dropped to $5999. maybe with the lowered price this tine it will find a home with or without possible heritage.

    Good luck with sale.

Sinatra is a big enough name to where if the connection can be proven, it might encourage a sale.
Otherwise, this car is in pretty desperate shape.

Nancy Sinatra is still around, so why not attempt to authenticate the Sinatra connection?

For fun looked up Nancy Sinatra cars ever owned with early 57 Thunderbird
,68 Firebird vert , Jag XJ6…, 69 Ferrari 365 GT, 66 Datsun roadster . (Most released back to the wild and sold)
If this was her car it was the runt of the litter .

Better catch her soon at 85 years old but probably guarded with internet stating net worth at 50 MM.

I would just restore if desired and “just forget about it”…(TV mob quite) 😝

One of Frankie’s ties is included? Or was that Frank Sinatra tires?

This car has been for sale in my area for years, price does keep dropping. Pretty soon they will pay to just have someone haul it out. Sinatra or not, it needs a ton of work.

I had a picture of Nancy in a pink bi-kini on the bedroom wall, my first wife didn’t like it. Think Nancy is a genuine nice person. Never hear anything of her now, would be really nice if she could confirm provenance of this car. Shame the car has been left to fester. Here in the UK T Birds are desirable because of their size. One day we may see it’s boots a rolling.

Believable story, much like on Seinfeld where George Costanza bought Jon Voight’s Chrysler LeBaron.

I think he bought John Voight’s LeBaron, that was his problem.

Except it wasn’t Jon Voight, the actor! It was Jon Voight, the dentist, car!!
